Have a few questions re: getting my daughter enrolled and settled this fall..

I know one item they are charging is for student health insurance, she is covered on my health plan until age 26. She has out of network coverage - do I still have to pay this fee?

She currently has an account at Key Bank, we were thinking of transferring her money to a bank that has ATM's on campus (as long as they have a branch in Buffalo so I can make deposits into that account here when needed)..can someone tell me what banks have ATM's on campus so that she doesn't get charged ATM fees? Would HSBC be one?

What meal plan do you recommend?

During orientation and/or admitted students day..is there some kind of list handed out, or does someone go over what they need to come with when they're dorming ie: sheets, towels..etc.

thank you so much, I'm type A and I'm excited for her, but a wreck.. LOL !!

Here’s the answer to your question regarding health insurance. I cut and pasted it straight from their website.

All full-time matriculated students at Stony Brook are automatically billed for the University Health Insurance plan at the beginning of each semester.

Waivers for this insurance plan are approved only if the student already has alternate health insurance in place and completes a waiver online (on SOLAR) at the beginning of the semester. Your alternate insurance must cover you for the following medical services if you wish to waive the University insurance:

Inpatient hospitalization
Outpatient mental health visits
Prescription medicines
Self injury and suicide attempts
Pre-existing medical conditions

To file a waiver the student must go to the SOLAR main page, and click on “Student Financial Services,” and then on “Health Insurance Waivers.” Waivers must be completed by the third week of classes at the start of every academic year. Waivers are not accepted after the due date. All waivers are subject to an audit during the school year.

^Here’s the info about banking/ATM’s

2) Nationally, Bank of America also has an ATM in the Union.

3) I usually recommend students start with the middle plan. You can always add money, but you don’t get money back if she doesn’t use it.

4) Yes, Res Life has a list. I think it’s in the Orientation packets.
