Hey, I hear you say that you were living in England, but are latina and are applying internationally? Does that mean you’ve never gone to school in the states? And what country are you originally from? Espero que no te moleste preguntarte…

FrostByte38 - Bard weighs interest a lot when admitting, waitlisting, or rejecting students. If you want really want to go to Bard, I would recommend writing a letter to admissions saying so and why. Why Bard? What would a Bard education mean to you?

Strengths: strong writer, strong SAT’s, intellectual interest. it probably also helps that i’m mexican and from a city bordering with east l.a.
Weaknesses: GPA, class rank
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Essay, recommendations
General Comments: I was rejected from every other private school I applied to (Grinnell, Hampshire, Macalester, and waitlisted at Reed) so I was surprised to see I got into Bard. My embarrassingly low g.p.a. can be attributed to my grades in 9th grade (i got a 2.0/2.8) but since, I’ve only gotten 3.5’s and above. I’m crossing my fingers the financial aid comes through because it really seems like a great school.

I totally agree with lilygraces. If you really want to Bard Frostbyte, you should call. I’ve seen a thread about someone getting in after being denied, simply because his love for the school and his desire for learning came together into a moving telephone call to the admissions office.

Does anyone know when the financial aid award notifications is being sent for Bard?

@BigblueGirl2012 I called admissions and finaid offices yesterday and they said they mailed it out on Monday so expect them in ur mailbox soon ! ;)

My daughter got hers yesterday. Pleased and happy that it will be possible for her to go there.

Great news @atidrep!

Still haven’t received our letter yet… Is everyone who has on the east coast?

Nothing from finaid in our mail today. :(

Got the aid award in MA today. It’s a solid aid award but since it is over $7000 less a year than was awarded by Vassar he probably cannot choose Bard. He would have gone for Bard if it had been close.

2dtimearound - if he truly would choose Bard over Vassar if they could match the award - there’s no harm in asking the financial aid office if any adjustments can be made. Let them know the truth - that, yes, he would go to Bard, and that he has an offer in hand for more from Vassar. I don’t know how Bard does in this regard - but many many other schools will adjust their financial aid awards to match another school.

Yeah, Vassar seems like the perfect school to do that with, too, since I get the sense plenty of students make the opposite decision.

Thanks for the suggestion - we have discussed that idea. I suspect the gap is too large and that Bard did the best it could to meet need but meets need with a larger percentage of loans than a school like Vassar does. It’s not as though Vassar is a sorry runner up or anything - we will give it a few days to settle but right now he doesn’t want to try to “bargain” with them (not really our family personality type). He knows he can get a great education and have a rich experience at either school. I’m glad to see so many seem to have had their need met at Bard and will be able to go, it strikes me as a special place.

2dtimearound - It truly is acceptable to let one school know about another comparable school’s offer. No shame to it. All they can do is say, sorry, we’ve given as much as we can - or maybe they’ll say instead - let’s see what we can do. I’ve seen this happen time and time again.
On the other hand - if he doesn’t prefer Bard over Vassar - then perhaps it’s easier to just let the cards fall as they are.

[/ul]General Comments:
We’ll see what happens with financial aid. For those curious, I was also accepted to Tufts, Vassar, Boston University and some safeties. I was rejected from the University of Rochester, Hamilton, Cornell, and waitlisted at Fordham (they are not need-blind). If I can find someone to cover my shift at work, I will be at the accepted student day this Saturday.

Good luck to anyone interested in Bard College Class of 2017. Dream big.

yes… that’s right, I’m from Mexico but I’ve been living in England for the past four years! and nope never lived in the states!
sorry for the late reply!

Congrats to all future Bardians! I was accepted as well, and now my dilemma is housing. What do you guys think of Gender Neutral Housing? I kind of want to experience something new but it might be a huge mistake because I’ve never had to live with a guy besides my dad lol .
any tips may help thanks

You know, I’ve had girl and boy roommates and I can definitely say that the guy was a lot neater and easier to be with. But maybe that’s just because I’m a guy myself?? It is less of a hassle to be with someone with the same gender, but I think it totally depends on who you get - someone can be a good roommate or a horrible roommate, it doesn’t really matter what gender they are…
