I know there is a ton of writing at Bard. My son enjoys writing and is an okay writer (truthfully) but not a gifted writer (he does have very strong oral communication skills). I would suspect at the end of 4 years at Bard, he would become a very stronger writer. Do students entering Bard without a gift for writing experience an excessive struggle (some struggling, particularly with writing, is part of the process and to be expected, my concern is the excessive struggle)?
Wow, that’s a tough question and hard to answer. Yes, there is a lot of writing at Bard, and a Senior Project is required - which usually involves a lot of writing. Some professors will be tougher than others when it comes to evaluating writing - he’ll probably get a sense of which ones those are and either avoid them or rise to the challenge. What area is he hoping to focus in? Know that in addition to writing, there’s a lot of reading required, as well. Although comparing the Bard workload to other schools - it is usually a sensible amount, rather than a punishing amount.
