Bard Theater, etc.

Thank you for the report on Bard. It was high on my D’s list for a long time. It is very interesting that they are changing the theatre dept. One thing we had noticed last year that was strikingly missing from their curriculum were courses on design (acting, directing and playwriting were definitely strong). I wonder if some design classes will be added now.

One thing we noticed on virtually all “college review” type boards about Bard was that parking was awful. I know those sites can be very skewed, but it was a pervasive opinion (with detailed descriptions of why they felt that way).

That’s funny about parking. We drove all over the campus (which is pretty spread out) and always parked easily. I had long conversations with two students that included the topic of parking (one of them has a car at Bard) and both said that parking was no problem. Also, Bard has ZipCars, so a student who needed to drive to, for example, Boston (as one of them told me she did recently) would be able to use a ZipCar, rather than awkwardly going in NYC and getting a train or Bolt Bus.

Edit: Maybe “awful” parking means different things to different people. I am used to fighting for parking in Manhattan and in Philadelphia (where parking so difficult they actually made a reality show about it.) So to me it seemed like a breeze.
