Barnard College Class of 2016 ED Thread

I think it depends on the spirit of it. If the girls who go there find it funny and it’s not coming from a cruel place, then it’s funny. If it’s coming from a mean-spirited place, then I don’t think it’s funny. For example, super White Girl Problems is funny because it is definitely the former situation.

none of it is cruel…?

@francesca: I know!!! Stay strong, girls!

@nyc1994: I know that now, but I just meant if it was made by girls from Columbia or something, like noloserhere said earlier.

I agree with PeaceLoveTheatre. Self-deprecating humor is one thing; malicious humor is another.

Welcome to the thread, francesca! It’s pretty much down to 8 days now - aaaah! I’m expecting a rejection but I’ve got the jitters regardless.

I actually don’t approve of self-deprecating humor either. Mostly because I find it annoying… Haha, I’m not very sympathetic person, I think, regarding some matters. I dunno, I just feel like insecurities should be kept private except with the closest of friends. Otherwise, it gets annoying.
Thats the main reason that most of my friends are guys. The thing that bothers me about pre-teen girls is that they always make self-deprecating comments about their appearance or weight… I mean, it’s perfectly normal to be insecure but it’s awkward when someone else is practically fishing for compliments.

Insecurity is natural, but I don’t habitually talk about all of my insecurities as if they matter. Self-deprecating comments, from my experience, just tend to make everyone around that person feel extremely uncomfortable. Sort of like, “Man, you have no self-esteem, do you?”

Haha but all of what I said it completely removed from the discussion about mylifeisbarnard. I actually think the account is fine. I was just really confused when I first ran through because I thought it was serious for a VERY VERY long time haha.

Any volunteers to make the official decision thread and post a stats outline in html?

By the way, in case youre curious about the time of my postings… I’m basically nocturnal. It sucks.

I thought last year’s outline was really good, so we could probably just use that. And like whoever gets their decision first can make the thread…or I can make it if you guys want :)

mylifeisbarnard is hilarious! hahaha

My day sucked. SO BAD. And is continuing to suck. Beyond Belief.

The only good news thus far: Just found out I’m a New York Times Scholarship Semi-Finalist.  :)

Why don’t we have some light conversation on this thread for the most selective women’s college (in the world? i think i read that somewhere).

What are your ideal guys, Barnard prospies? (Looks/Personality/Habits/Weird attractive traits)
I know that compromise is important in a relationship… but haha this question is just for kicks.

I kinda know what type I’m attracted to–slightly shaggy dark hair, brown puppy dog eyes, a little nerdy  – but that’s not what it’s about in the grand scheme of things. You want to find someone who shares the same priorites and values as you do, who respects you, and who you can share a comfortable silence with. Personally I’m not looking, per se, but if something comes along I’ll give it a shot.

Heteronormativity in a Barnard thread? Tsk, tsk!

But I have to say, SunlitMidnight’s description sounds pretty good to me. I never really thought of myself as someone who had a set “type,” but it seems like every guy I like is skinny and slightly to moderately nerdy with dark, curly hair. That’s not necessarily what I’m looking for, though - the only real dealbreakers in my mind are personality-based (for example, I have no interest in a guy who’s hypermasculine, conservative, or overconfident) and above all, I’m just interested in someone who I’m comfortable with.

Favorite lines from mylifeisbarnard:

“Fat guy w/ beard turned me down last night after I threw myself at him. Only at this school can fat, bearded guys get away with that”
LOL I totally agree with the above. All of the Columbia guys I’ve met have seemed that way to me… Not that attractive but still so stuck up haha.

"@__ Excuse me? What would be funny about it if we were CC? Then it would just be insulting, not ironic. Get it together." hilarious attitude.

I love a man with a big, beautiful…

*****. What, you thought I’d say something else? :p

No, but really, I don’t have a “type” in the looks department. I’m not typically into blondes and I prefer guys who are taller than me and not significantly skinnier than me, although I’m not too picky. I do tend to go for guys with brown hair and brown eyes but I don’t discriminate. All colors are fair game to me. As for personality, he has to be funny, intelligent, and outgoing. Not into shy guys or guys who are extremely serious and codependent. He has to have his own friends and his own life. He also has to be affectionate - I couldn’t be with a guy who was cold and reserved.

I’m getting so nervous, ladies. Is anyone else this jittery? My heart is telling me I’ll get accepted but my brain is telling me I’ll get rejected. I requested off of work next Wednesday because of my school’s winter concert and I don’t think I’m working this Friday, so all night tonight at work I was thinking, “next time I go to work I will know whether or not I’m accepted into Barnard.” THE NERVES!

And on a completely unrelated topic: has anyone seen the new Rick Perry campaign ad? I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard in months. I suppose with Herman Cain out of the race someone has to take the mantle as “Most Ridiculous Candidate.”

Well, my only major thing is the guy cannot be skinnier than me. It’s just a no…mostly because I used to be significantly overweight and it would make me self-concious. But, anyway, haha, SunlitMidnight described my type quite well…haha, only with a little bit of scruff. And personality wise, it depends…I don’t really have type. As long as said guy is nice and puts up with me (which is quite the feat, in my opinion - I’m just really quirky in general).

And, amurd, bahh, that is so frightening to think of it that way! Tomorrow will be the one week mark, ladies!

And, I have not seen the campaign ad…hehe, I will have to check it out. I’m in need of a good laugh.

Heteronormative assumptions are out of step.

I think I’m going to remove myself from this thread…

I hate my school. Why the hell do I have so much work to do :frowning:

I’ll let you know what happens on the Decisions thread. Adios.

@Nacreous, whoever else it was. Uhhhh, I apologize. I’m not homophobic. The question arose because you guys were discussing boys before. So.

Yeah, later.

i look like a 12 year old, have the body of a 12 year old, and weigh less than i did when i was an actual 12 year old…got them boys lining up the block

The winklevoss twins <3 ;)

@medrix: YES.

Preppy guys…crew/lax <3. So cute!

…Does Columbia have a crew team hahaha?

Yes! And a rugby team  I did my research :D
