I think I’ll join it if I see other Barnard girls in it…it would be cool to have a meetup with barnard/columbia students, but if its ONLY CC and SEAS, then no. And such a dilemma which email to use.

omg, my mind is like racing and im thinking of all the activities I’m going to do! And plannning my classes! this is sooo unreal.

Hey, just putting my two cents in about joining the Columbia FB group: don’t join it if you’re a Barnard women. As a Columbia student, I get sad/frustrated at the amount of shame some Barnard students seem to have about their school–when on a subway if a person asks them what school they’re from, some will say Columbia. This doesn’t bother me because I’m angry that they’re riding on Columbia’s merit or something like that; it bothers me because Barnard is an amazing school–the most selective women’s college in the nation. If I went to Barnard, I would say I was a Barnard woman with pride. I almost applied to Barnard early decision, but didn’t because Columbia’s financial aid was going to be better for me. Please don’t already start perpetuating the desire to do everything Columbia at the cost of your own school spirit. Use Barnard’s 2016 page whenever they get that together, and use that to post all of the embarrassing stuff that pre-frosh post on those pages.

Congratulations on getting in–you’re going to love it here.

I think the whole Facebook thing comes from the fact that Barnard and Columbia share a network. If you go to Barnard you have to join the Columbia network (Barnard doesn’t have one) but you don’t have to join the Columbia group or list it under your education info of you don’t want to.

If I am able to sign on to the Accepted Students site and pay the deposit and everything, does this mean I am definitely accepted?? Or could it be a mistake??

I have not received my letter yet and I’m super super nervous.

I have access to the admitted student website but still no letter! :(. I’m in PA too, so I’m not far outside of NY. Is there any way that I got rejected?

PS. The whole Barnard/Columbia thing really isn’t awkward except on the internet. People like blowing things out of proportion online. In real life, it’s loads more mellow. I promise you that.

The Columbia band played I’ll Make a Man Outta You at us tonight. We threw our finals’ notes out a them. It was absolutely lovely.

I got my letter today! It’s official! Yayyy!!! :D

To those of you East Coasters who haven’t gotten yours yet, that’s really weird considering that I got mine…they probably sent a lot of the closer ones out on Wednesday.

@LadyStumble, I’m not so sure… I worked at a law firm this summer & there were too girls from Columbia and they both asked each other “BC or CC” & were elated to find out they were both in Columbia College. Then they talked about how annoying it is when Barnard students try to say they go to Columbia and how Columbia is sooo much harder to do work or get into. They kind of gave off the perception that they were somehow better because they’re CC girls.

@AmbitiousBetty, there will always be people who are testy about the whole situation, but from my experience, it’s the minority. A very transient minority. Pooling the encounters my friends and I have, the superiority complex has been aimed toward us exclusively by first year Columbia girls. All the upperclassmen, girls and boys, I know don’t make any deal out of it.

There will always be people who need to bring other people down for their own benefit. I mean, even within Columbia, I hear tell that CEAS likes to tear down GS and CAS students. Of course, it could be all rumor since I haven’t seen it myself. Even in other colleges, there will be people who have a much higher opinion themselves who need to use others in order to confirm their own evolutionary predominance. That’s just life.

People get into Columbia and Barnard for a reason. They’re intelligent, they are passionate, and they are open-minded. Of course, there are people who are just dicks. There are people like that at Columbia and Barnard, and, well, in NYC. The majority, though, are amazing people who inspire me and make me laugh and make me think. So, as I said before, don’t worry. :)

My brother is a professor at Columbia and talked to my daughter about how some Columbia students try to look down on Barnard. However, the truth is Barnard women get the best of both world’s. If my daughter wasn’t applying ED elsewhere, should would have applied ED to Barnard. It’s a no-brainer.

You get to attend a top liberal arts women’s college and still have all of the advantages of a large Ivy league university.
