say I got into macalester early-write and then into barnard off the waitlist, which one should I pick? many people say Barnard is better but when i looked at the usnews college rating, it Macalester was rated higher.. Also, MAcalester was rated #1 quality of life, so that should say something.. Please let me know what you think.. I'd like to know which one will create a better "success-story".

Barnard has more name recognition, though IMHO the two schools are so close in quality as to be indistinguishable. As for which is a better school - what are you looking for, personally? Academics, social scene, environment?

Do you know what you want to study? It depends.

That made me laugh.

Academically the quality is great at both.
I love Macalester.
Life in St. Paul is very different from life in New York City. I think this should be a big part of your decision. Which do you prefer?
Macalester has good access to Minneapolis and St. Paul; good public transportation for the midwest. Can't compare to the NYC subway, of course.
