I’m debating between two woman’s colleges and Johns Hopkins… I’m originally from NYC, and I’m interested in economics… which school would be better for me?

waterlily, are you the korean girl who said somewhere earlier that you applied to lots of same schools as me?

I thought you got waitlisted at Wellesley?

Here's my two cents..
If you're from NYC and want to experience something else.. and want to get away from home for college then I suggest going to Wellesly or JHU.
And if you don't mind going to an all women's college Wellesley will be fine for you, if not go to JHU (they have slightly more men than women there).
I hear Wellesley is about 10km out of Boston.. if you prefer the city .. then it's Barnard.
So Wellesley is more of the traditional all women's college.. I personally don't really like that, but if you do then by all means go.

All 3 are really great schools.

I'm not familiar with how strong the econmocis department is at all 3 schools. I'd imagine the 2 girls schools would be better for econs than JHU..

i got waitlisted at georgetown..anyways thanks silver.

u did pm me right?
or something..

I am deciding between Barnard and JHU also...both schools are very different and I guess what it really comes down to is what do you hope to get out of college? You'll have a very different experience at each of those schools. Also what is your major?

Not knowing anything else about your preferences, I'd rule out JHU. Wellesley is currently known as the economics powerhouse of the women's colleges. But Barnard's making new hires to expand its department, and Columbia is planning to DOUBLE the department's size over the next few years (trying to make a name for itself in graduate economics). Also, I don't know anything about Wellesley's program, but being an economics major at Barnard is great. Lots of opportunities.

It should probably come down to which college you like better. Agreed with Silver that Wellesley's going to give you much more of a women's college experience, and that if you're tired of NYC, it'll provide a nice change of pace.
