BARNARD'S ARCHITECTURE MAJOR

Hey guys ! Im sorry to ask maybe a stupid question but i am international so i dont know much about this.
If you major in architecture at barnard what is your degree called is it B.arch ? Do you have to continue in a graduate school or can you get a job afterwards ?

Please help im so confused

Barnard is a 4 yr non-accredited program - requires grad school. If you are not interested in grad school, you need to find a 5 yr professional program. Check this link to US National Arch Accrediting Board.

It will allow you to search colleges by state that are accredited and won’t require a masters of arch.

@Dreamerinthemoon, The undergraduate architecture degree offered by Barnard is a 4.0 year Bachelor of Arts IN architecture. It’s a strong program which I believe is run jointly with Columbia’s undergraduate architecture program, and which draws on the resources of Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture.

In order to become a licensed architect in the U.S. you would need to get a Master OF Architecture on top of the 4.0 year BA or BS in architecture, architectural studies or anything else.

The MArch takes from 2.0 to 3.5 years depending on your undergraduate degree and the requirements of the individual program.

Alternately you could go for the undergraduate Bachelor OF architecture (BArch) which is offered at about 50 schools in the U.S. and Canada. This is generally speaking the most cost effective route.

The licensing process takes about 2.5 to 3.0 years after graduation. Licensing requirements are administered by each state. Some allow work experience in lieu of the BArch or MArch.

If you intend to practice architecture outside of the U.S. then you’ll have to check the requirements of each country.

Architecture is a big field and architecture firms in the U.S. have many employees who don’t have BArchs or MArchs and/or are not licensed. As an international, however, you would be more likely to find work in the U.S. if you have a BArch or MArch.
