Barnard's relationship with Columbia

Hey everyone,
I was accepted early decision to Barnard College. I was just wondering (for all of you who already go to Columbia). Is it true that there is a lot of tension between the people at Barnard and the people at Columbia? I really hope not considering Barnard is technically part of Columbia…
BEST OF LUCK to all!

According to my D there doesn't seem to be much tension. There was one thread on the CC Columbia forum where some Columbia women were expressing disapproval of the Barnard women, but there was also a lot of support from other Columbia students and alums.

If you look back, there are TONS of threads about this in this forum as well as Columbia's.
I was initially concerned about this 'tension' you refer to.. but after being here one semester I can honestly tell you that it's a lot of hype. Personally, I haven't experienced hostility from Columbia students. Some of my closest friends are at Columbia. And my close knit group of girlfriends all live on my floor at Barnard. I have just as much interaction with Barnard girls as I do with Columbia guys and girls.
From personal experience and the experience of my Barnard friends, I can tell you that this so-called tension doesn't REALLY exist.. Yeah, sometimes people joke about Barnard.. but then again Barnard girls also joke about Columbia.
People have a misconcpetion about this sensitive issue... but really I don't think it's a big deal. Besides, the relationship between Columbia and Barnard is what each individual makes of it. I know some Barnard girls like my roommate don't utilize Columbia's facilities as much as some other girls do.
Honestly, Barnard really is part of Columbia. Barnard was born out of Columbia, and we are very much integrated into the larger community. Barnard is made to use Columbia's resources and that is why this relationship is so unique. I think we get the best of both worlds.

Barnard is truly a one of a kind. It is a small liberal arts college within a large ivy league research university. It is a women's college yet it is also coed. It has a beautiful campus and amazing facilities (thanks to CU), and yet it is also in one of the most incredible cities.
Most people here really don't see a difference between BC and CU. Having said all this, I am so glad that I'm on this side of Broadway... it's just a little more cosy.
