To answer phil’s question, aside from a handful of jealous girls in CC (something that typically disappears by the end of freshman year), it’s a very cordial, even [sorry] collegial. Lots of columbia guys date barnard girls, some columbia girls date barnard girls, every club on campus (and every sorority) involves both Barnard and Columbia kids, you can eat in each other’s dining halls, live in each other’s dorms, take classes at the other school for credit… there’s really no hard line drawn. Except degree requirements.

The math writes itself, no? In economic terms we call this unpenetrated market segment. ;)

And no, Barnard is not Columbia. Everything D. said is true but there’s still a distinction as the countless of threads regarding the topic will prove with a quick search.

Yeah It is really sad. Why Barnard girls are hiding their school’s name after spending 4 years and 50K per year. Barnard’s reputation is ruined not by outsiders (e.g. CC,SEAS, NYU,). Barnard girls themselves are the ones destroying their own school’s reputation.

I knew two girls at Barnard. Both of them said they went to Columbia and one of them even managed to transfer into Columbia and was quite proud of herself for doing so.

I know…it’s really crazy…I just don’t get why they’re not proud of their own school – it’s not like Barnard is community college…it’s one of the best schools in the country.
