Barron's Math II v. Real Test

hmmm…interesting

@monkeydudexD: you scared me there!
@RainbowSprinkles: seeing what everyone else has posted that 640 seems way off.

I got a 710 on Test 2. I have some q’s though. Barron’s doesn’t seem to have good explanations.

sinL = 1/3, sinJ = 3/5, JK = sqrt5 in triangle JKL.
The length of KL in inches is:
a)1.7
b)3.0
c)3.5
d)3.9
e)4.0

28.
Matrix X: r x c
Martix Y: c x d, where r,c, and d are different

Which of the following statements must be false?
I The product of YX exists.
II The product of XY exists and has r rows and d columns
III The product XY exists and has c rows and c columns

a) I only
b) II only
c) III only
d) I and II
e) II and III

^I know, right? I’ve been rummaging through CC forums like a crazy person, and it seems that people who get around 700 on Barron’s practice tests usually get 800 or at the very least, 700+. I don’t understand how I got 640, seeing as I got 94% on my calculus course.

I sent in my Score Verification form already and now am waiting for a response.

CB says they’ll change your score if:

 1. they scanned or scored it wrong (refund)
 2. they notice that you made a stupid mistake when bubbling in answers (no refund)

I hope my score will be at least 700+ after they check it with their own eyes!!!

There are definitely exceptions, but usually many students who score in the low 700s on Barron’s tests (and I think even high 600s) can pull off an 800 on the real thing, or at least a very solid score (if not 800). I scored around 720 on Barron’s practice tests and got a 790 on the real thing.

for 27.
you just need to use sine law
draw a triangle and label angles J K and L
KL is opposite to angle J so you can use sinJ
and they give you JK=sqrt5 which is opposite to angle L
then plug into sine law:
KL/sinJ=JK/sinL then sub in your values
and solve for KL
and you will get 4.0 which is e

yeah, that’s why I don’t understand how I got 640, because I’ve been getting consistently around 700 on Barron’s :frowning:

waiting anxiously for a reply from CB about score verification!

What are some things I can do the last couple of days to sort of prepare myself to have a solid shot at 800? Anything to brush up on (specific concepts)? Are there topics on the real thing that aren’t very common on barron’s (probablity problems?). Any tips, insight?

Also, is there a sample official test like CB has for the SAT I for math ii? I want to write a legit one to know where I stand.

800 Barrons Test->800IIC

I know this isn’t much help but I really found all the questions in Barrons and IIC to be very straightforward. I took the test in October, maybe this was just a really really easy test…?

I got a 670 on Test 3 in Barron’s. How do I stop making silly errors or just dumb errors?! I cost myself at least 3 right answers and a 1 pt deduction. I could got the same 710 like on Test 2 but I’m having problems with some silly errors.

Also on other q’s I’ll like over analyze when there’s a simple solution and method to solve. Any tips with these issues? All help appreciated. I want to head into the test scoring low 700s on Barron’s so that I’m confident.

I got 600s on Barron’s tests and a 790 (which is good everywhere but CC) on the real one. The real test is much easier than Barron’s.

I’m waiting anxiously for score verification to come back. I got around 700 consistently on Barron’s and got 640 on the real thing. With the schools I’m applying to, I don’t stand a chance of getting in with a score that bad. I hope CB messed up the scoring!

Maybe you skipped a bubble by accident, near the end?

oh ___, I hope I didn’t ): but I might have. I think if I did that, CB would notice when they hand-score my sheet, so they’ll give me what I deserve (because on the website, it said that if an obvious mistake was made in bubbling in, they would change the score accordingly but wouldn’t give refunds). I don’t care about the $52. I just want my score to be higher (700+).

They’re also re-scoring lit, since I took that on the same day as I took Math II.

Wish me luck!

@Nerdlings, by 600s, were you getting high, mid, or low 600s or a bit of everything?

^ViggyRam, I was just looking through the Official Canadian RD Decisions thread. What schools in the US did you get into? Mind sharing your stats? :D

^I’m class of '15. I’m applying this year.

I took the real test, then the day after took a Barron’s test. Got a 510 on the Barron’s and was freaking out, but got a 730 on the actual test. Not as amazing as all of you, but I’m pleased

Lowish 600’s, like 610-630… maybe it’s because I took a practice test everyday the week before the real one after I was done with homework and before bed…

:( what? I feel so ripped off because I’ve been getting around 700 consistently on Barron’s, but only a 640 on the real thing. OUTRAGEOUS!

They better hand verify my scores soon (sent my verification form out friday, but it’s really monday since there’s no mail on weekends). SO angry.

double post-sorry
