has anyone taken the barron's practice tests? How did those scores compare to your actual [new] SAT score? thanks!

I haven't taken them, but from what I have heard about Barron's, the practice tests are probably more difficult than the real thing.

Also has anybody tried Gruber's practice tests? (sorry for altering your thread!)

yeah, it doesnt really help (grubers)

Take the CB tests--they are very accurate. Take the average of all your tests and thats basically what you'll get. My combined score was within 20 points of my practice test average.

i think barron's is much harder than the real test

is that a good or bad thing

i think it's good, just harder than the real test.

what about the act same for the barrons?

I donno about ACT but for the SAT, I think Barrons is really good. Just make sure that you take the Barrons tests without time limits and carefully answer the questions. This will really improve your SAT skills. After that build speed with real SAT practice tests from the Blue Book.

thanks for the reply. when you say barrons is harder, are the questions harder, the curve, or both?

I haven't tried Barron's but other than the CB stuff I would suggest the Princeton Review's tests. They're really good.

just the question is harder i think, but just for the SAT, i won't the ACT test.

Barron's tests are not necessarily harder; they are, however, irrelevant, full of errors, and misleading. There is NO reason to take "harder" tests to prepare for the SAT. Nobody in his right mind would use an AP Calculus or the Math IIC tests to prepare for the SAT Reasoning Test.

Despite years and years of having released official tests, Barron's was never able to come close to the old SAT tests. So you can guess, how bad their current tests must be.

Read the Barron's tips and strategies and give the rest of the book to a kid you REALLY do not like at school.

By the way, it is not only Barrons ... all the wannabe test writers fall in the same category -that would be Kaplan, PR, Gruber's, RR, name them. Only TCB tests should be used. Period!

Hey Xiggi, what is your opinion on Barron's SAT Math workbook? is it beneficial or is it a big waste of time because it isn't completely accurate?

Xiggi, that was funny. Give Barron's books to your worst enemies--that is your best tip yet.

Seriously, I agree that the Barron's stuff is horrible. They try to teach you stuff like matrices and trig functions to raise your SAT math score. That's like running a mile to warm up for a walk around the block. But I would say that if you've used up all the CB practice tests (as some people on CC have) then the PR and Kaplan tests won't hurt you, as long as you don't trust the scores their tests predict and you're just trying to get extra practice on fairly realistic problems. It's hilarious how the test companies have put out tests that project scores--if you look at the difference in the scaling between the CB Official Guide tests and the March 2005 test, it is obvious that the CB is still polishing the scaling--so I don't know how PR and Kaplan and all the rest think they could get it right.

ACT recently put out their own book too, called Real ACT's I think. Funny how they stole the name ("Real...") from the CB. There are three practice tests in that book, plus about four more old ACT's that you can order or track down, and the old ones are still perfectly good because all you have to do is pair them with an essay prompt. Nothing else changed on the ACT.

2400SAT, what is your score on the SAT?

i think barron's math workbook is very beneficial because it breaks down sections for each specific problem type and gives u about 15 MC and 3-4 grid-ins on average
although it has a few sections that are useless because they would never appear on the SAT, the sections cover the material thoroughly and i would say it is the best prep book for SAT math

Am I the only person that thinks the CR in Barrons is easier than the actual test? ;_;

Xiggi, there are only two SAT II math tests (one IC and one IIC) in CB SAT II book. Has CB ever release reall SATII tests thru Q'n'A service?
And what about Meylani SATII books? People swear by them on amazon.

i dont like barrons, it really doesn't help, try spark notes, its really good
