Barry Bonds and the racial divide

<a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19796395/%5B/url%5D">http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19796395/</a></p>

I don't understand how Barry Bonds suddenly became a hero in the Black community. I think this is a case of some Black people becoming suspicious of the constant anti-Bonds agenda of the mostly White media, and feeling the need to attach a great racial cause to what is simply a story about a jerk who nobody likes. Bonds has handled himself less than honestly, honourably or graciously during the whole BALCO scandal and has rightfully deserved all the negative attention poured upon him. It's not a great racial conspiracy. The very man whose record he's chasing is also Black for God's sake.

I just hate it when the race card is pulled out in idiotic fashion because it trivializes real issues of racism. Take supreme moron Gary Sheffield for example. According to him, the MLB's an anti-Black league because it favours compliant and docile Latinos to hard-to-control Blacks. Also, Joe Torre is a racist because he picked on Blacks like himself, Tony Womack, and Kenny Lofton. When told of the fact that many of Torre's favourites, like Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams are also Black, Sheffield just stopped short of calling them Uncle Toms and said they were both black AND white. So according to Professor Sheffield, I guess the only real Blacks are people like him: angry, defiant, and cancerous malcontents who are too real to follow things like rules and decorum.

I have the greatest sympathy for Black people when, all too often, the playing field is tilted against them. It's absolutely ridiculous how we still have to pander to the section of the American public that still haven't properly braced themselves for the Earth-shattering catastrophe that would be a Black presidency. But I have absolutely nothing but disdain for those narrow-minded and race-blinded fools who, by siding with people like O.J. Simpson, Barry Bonds, and even Al Sharpton, do nothing but retard the progress of their own people. These are probably the same people who would think that P. Diddy is a better role model for young Blacks than Barack Obama. because the former achieved success the "Black way" and not by "acting White".

Just venting.

I agree with just about all of what you said.

I honestly feel that this issue is not about race, but more that Bonds is just an ass. Just because a ton of people don't like you doesn't mean you should throw around the race card.

boy, well said.
