USF Shortstop named 2007 Valedictorian

I loved this story. This young man really embodies the highest standards of the student-athlete.

He majored in international studies and someday would like to go to law school and study international law or international politics.

A real major, too. Nice story.

I forget the name of the player, or the team (Brewers, maybe?), but I recently saw a Major League pitcher who the announcers said was Phi Betta Kappa in Economics from Duke. There are some smart baseball players out there!

One of them is the OP's son !!!! :D

Yes, very true!

Another academic/sports star.

Hey y'all, remember that the team from Rice University won the NCAA baseball championship a year or two ago. Academics are no cakewalk at Rice.

This is a site for those who are interested in seeing outstanding scholar athletes. And yes, my son is in here somewhere ;).

Garland--very good memory! Chris Capuano, pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers.

And, Mike Mussina is no slouch either. A NYT Crossword puzzle devotee (featured in the documentary "Wordplay") as well:

Well, not that good a memory; we (by "we" I mean my Mets) just played (and beat) Capuano last weekend. I shoulda remembered his name.

As long as it isn't "my Yankees", it's all good ;).

OH gosh, no. And looking forward to attendng the Mets/Yanks game tomorrow!

Speaking of smart baseball players, how about Bernie Williams? (Yes, a Yankee.) His ADD was never diagnosed, and he still became an amazing classical guitarist.

Garland--have fun and go Mets! I searched all over Boston last summer and finally found the t-shirt my son had been hankering for: I (heart) NY but I still hate the Yankees. Funny thing, you can't find it in New York (maybe at the Mets store?)

I read that the top graduating senior at Columbia's engineering college was a star player on the soccer team for four years while earning above a 4.0 (Some Columbia profs give A+s) in Chemical Engineering. Sheesh...
