Might be a dumb question, but how does Rolling Admission come to my advantage if I’ve applied early november?

ok, so i submitted all my stuff to macauly baruch by yesterday, dec. 1, but wanted to send resume (they only allow you to list 3 ec’s without it) …is it too late? will they accept the mailed resume supplement after the application deadline?

bump. if anyone can answer my question, i’d deeply appreciate it. (:

Jeremy S, toshtemirov, and euroazn,

Hey guys, i was reading through this post and it was so interesting seeing you guys go back and forth, but to say the least, I learned a lot from it. Like Jeremy, I also live in NJ but I stated at a community college to get my associates degree. Now I want to transfer to Baruch to get my Bachelors. Since it has been almost 2-3 years since the original post, what are you guys doing now? Are you at Baruch or did you decide to go to another school?

Let me know your opinion on Baruch.

Thanks

JJ

I didn’t even know this thread still existed

But unfortunately I’m still in HS. I visited Baruch about a month ago, though, and I had mixed feelings.

The senior admissions officer who led the information session seemed like a complete moron. The tour guide (A rising senior I believe who majored in accounting) didn’t seem like the most knowledgeable person, but friendly nonetheless.

The facilities are very nice compared to what I’ve seen (I saw Pace later that day). The library is especially nice and so is the trading room.

The only upside I would give to Pace is that they have dorms (some of which are in the same building as classes).

I’m indecisive if I would go to Baruch over Rutgers, even if I did get housing. The total cost for a student from NJ is about the same for both schools (I think Baruch might be ~$1000 more?). In addition to that, I was told Baruch doesn’t have a meal plan, which makes living in the city extremely expensive.

Until I take the SATs for the last time and get my final GPA, I’m not 100% sure where I’m going to apply to. But I think either way I’ll still apply to the Macaulay Honors school, even though I doubt I will get in. If I do, then I will DEFINITELY attend. If I don’t get Baruch Scholars/Macaulay Honors, I may end up going to Rutgers.

Hope that provides some insight. I would recommend going to see the school over the Summer, especially if you live in Central/North Jersey

hey i see a lot of people are helping jeremy with his question on his new post. Im trying to get as much info as possible from this thread but can anyone please help me with my thread its barely getting any views and i need help. thanks a lot

Hi everyone, sorry to post this now but i just received my sat scores. I got the same, 1070(CR-470 M-600), I have a 91.68 GPA(about 3.7). I’m a senior I’ve taken AP calculus ab, AP US History, 3 college now classes, and currently AP statistics. I have about 40 hours of community service and I am desperate to get into Baruch because I hear its very popular for its business programs. Please, how are my chances looking? I also am; submitting 2 letters of recommendation(one from the head of the math dept. at my school) and 1 college essay

Critical reading is a little low but I’d say you’re in. I applied but I don’t think I’ll be attending either way because of the cost to live in NYC and the tuition increases. But if you’re a commuter it’s a great deal.

Hey there, I just received a holiday card from Baruch, my friend told me they sent that to everyone who applies, while my other friend says that they only send that out to people who they plan to admit, can someone please tell me which one is true.

I haven’t received a card but I don’t think that’s true. I’m pretty sure they haven’t seen all the applications yet.

I didnt get accepted into Baruch College for their fall 2013 semester I got a 1080 on sat math and reading with a 3.7 GPA. How hard will it be to transfer for the spring 2014 semester and what will I need to do. I wanna start my freshman year in college as perfect as possible for Baruch so please help me.

Baruch is overpacked that is why you didn’t get accepted. If you want to get in, try to apply in advance.

Baruch’s Business school is known for being amazing in the tri-state area. (Example: If you go to california everyones gunna be like whats Baruch, whereas they would know what nyu is). But if u wanna stay in the tri-state area in terms of jobs or living, then Baruch is the way to go. Baruch is cheap, a great business school, and is known in the tri-state area. What you can do is go to baruch for the first 2 years cuz its cheap, transfer to stern the next 2 years, hopefully financial aid and scholarships etc can cover u if u do well at baruch and have a high gpa and try to get a job or internships in ur 1st 2 years. Then for business school you can prolly go to an ivy league. 1st thing’s first, Grad school is more important than undergad, so if your smart you want to aim for the cheapest amount for undergrad so u save ur cash for later. I know so many people at Stern and Baruch right now. I know graduates also, who got BA’s and BS from stern and baruch. At both schools I know people who currently have and dont have jobs. One guy from Stern couldn’t find a job for 6 months and then had to take a computer programming class and then wrote that down on his resume to get a job. So a lot of different factors matter. I know a guy whose at Earnest and Young as in intern and goes to Baruch, and I also know a guy at Goldman Sachs right now from both Baruch and NYU. So again a lot of factors depend.
Hope this helped.

Ok let’s make it clear. The only thing Baruch has to offer is low price. That’s it! It’s Buisness school is ranked at 83 which is way bellow. By comparing NYU to Baruch is like comparing tomato to a tank. NYU is one of the best schools in the world! Baruch is known only in NYC. Plus Baruch is not even ranked nationally. It’s a regionally ranked school. And people who say that ranking don’t matter are wrong because they are the ones which will get you a good job with good salary at the end. I personally toured Baruch during this summer and I loved it. I even sent my application there. But as much as I want to love Baruch I still have to admit it is an ant if compared to NYU!

Response to Valeryko’s post:

Where do I begin. Yes, Baruch isn’t as well ranked or as well known around the country (outside of the New York area)or even in the world as NYU. I agree on that.

HOWEVER, to downplay the cost difference is like saying everyone should buy a Mercedes car over that of a Chrysler due to its ranking regardless of cost or regardless of the debt it creates. Cost is and should be a HUGE consideration in selecting a college.

Frankly the education is the same. Moreover, Baruch, more than most schools ranked at its level or even ahead of it, has a huge alumni base. This is particularly true among accounting firms and even law firms. I would bet that most major companies have Baruch alumni found in their management. It certainly didn’t hurt their chances.

Baruch also tends to get people who are not the sons and daughters of rich parents. Because of this and because it is well known for providing a good, quality education, there are LOTS of companies that recruit there. Their students are known for being hard working and not having a “privileged mentality.”

Honestly, If I were advising kids today, I would certainly recommend taking Baruch over that of NYU if
- They didn’t get a huge scholarship from NYU
- Aren’t from parents that are extremely rich or
- Even if from rich parents, they can get into Baruch Honors with a scholarship.

Trust me on this: people who graduate from Baruch will NOT be at a disadvantage and will probably have about the same job opportunities as an NYU undergrad. Now if we were talking about grad school, which NYU is known for, I would probably advise differently. However, for undergrad education. I think people are CRAZY paying 45K+ a year for NYU when they can go to Baruch for under 8K or even for free! Take the savings and buy a house or start a business with the difference. I can assure you that the “prestige whores” will really regret paying what they paid for an NYU education in later years. I have NEVER met anyone happy with incurring a large undergraduate student debt from any schools.

@taxguy Amen brother. I’ll take Baruch and graduate debt-free and you vain suckers can keep your fancy shcmancy NYU and your +150k student loan debt. Thank you very much.

I Agree 200%. My son is in High School, and he may want to give Accounting a try. I am a big believer in SUNY Schools. Why pay 200-250k for a private college for 4 yrs, when you can pay 100-125 k for a good SUNY School. Especially in a field like Accounting where you will not start off with that much more money if you go to a Tufts, Brandeis, Ahmerst etc. Also, you have to go to grad school to sit for the cpa exam so why go crazy on a private school. Maybe, and I say maybe, an IVY league school is something to consider or just under an IVY like University of Chicago, but maybe not for Accounting because KPMG will not give you 100k to start anyway. You will get the same 57-68 k to start so what is the point??

Also, with regard to Accounting ONLY, I would say go to Baruch Zicklin School for grad school over NYU STERN. Again, for the money, why spend an extra 40k or so? Most folks going to these schools will start off in NYC, so both have great recruiting. Start with a company in NYC, then go out of state if you want. I know that NYU is better known in California or Florida etc, however, if you start in NYC, Zicklin is highly regarded and has great contacts as well.

As a side note. I am 53, so I went to College in the early 80’s. I went to Oneonta. Believe me, NYU was a good school, nothing more, nothing less. Also, very overpriced!! Now they make it into Wharton or Oxford. What happened?? All of the Harvard Professors quit and went to NYU?? I am not saying NYU is not an excellent institution, but lets not get carried away. It is not 40k more per year better than the Zicklin School. I do get the point that nationwide NYU is more prestigious, but what does it matter if you are starting off in NYC??

Also Taxguy, I sent you an email about 3 or so weeks ago. (do not know if you got it) but is was regarding going to a prestigous undergrad school vs a good school and not having the pressure of killing yourself in undergrad. If you did not get it, just let me know Regards

Sorry didn’t see it. I have posted a response to all private messages sent me though
