Baruch Prospective Transfer Zicklin

Hello All,

I am a current junior studying Economics at the University of Michigan. I have finished 5 semesters in Ann Arbor with a 3.0 (could be better, I know). Due to my mother losing her job, I am no longer able to afford to attend this University as an out of state student. Because I live in NY, I want to transfer to a CUNY. Baruch, especially the Zicklin School, seems to be the best option for me. Can you apply directly to the Zicklin School as a transfer or do you have to get accepted first and then apply to the business school after taking another semester?

I know very little about Baruch or the Zicklin School. Do they get good recruiting for Economics majors (BBA in Econ)? Or would it be wise to stick to something like accounting? Do companies recruit even for arts and sciences there (if i did econ in A&S)?

The main issue is being 5 semesters into an economics major at Michigan. It would be easier to study the same at Baruch money wise. But would it make more sense to take an extra semester of undergrad (being that the tuition is so low for NY residents) in order to study at Zicklin (accounting, finance, etc.)?

Are there other colleges, with my stats, that are worth applying to? I only have a week to send in the apps...

I need your help as soon as possible.
Thanks!
James Jones

All other colleges at Baruch than Zicklin are pretty bad in terms of recruitment. If you want to take economics, do it in the Zicklin school. You can’t transfer directly into Zicklin, i believe theres 8 classes you have to take before you can apply. Its Calculus, CIS, stat, Financial Accounting and some other ones I can’t remember. They also have a stupid policy where you cant take any business classes in Zicklin before you get accepted to that school. The best recruitment is for Accounting i believe (I haven’t reached the recruitment stage yet, don’t know much about it). As long as you have a good gpa like 3.5+, you;ll have good recruitment opportunities. Pretty easy to get accepted into the college, I’m sure you can get in.

That guy above couldn’t be more wrong. I have a 3.8GPA, BBA in Econ like yourself. Recruitment is god awful. There are few positions for IB and a few for Ops. Your chances to get recruited are slim to none (esp. with that GPA/lack of work experience). If I were you, I would take a large loan out – you are wasting your time here.

Education is cheap, but is on a steady rise. I was accepted to U Mich LSA as a freshmen, but I couldn’t afford it because I am a NY resident as well. I’m currently a 1st year student here. No offense, but a 3.0 gpa at EVEN U-Mich will be difficult to land a good job offer especially in this economy. Since you are smart enough to get into U-Mich, you shouldn’t have a problem getting a 3.7+ GPA at Baruch. Transfer to Baruch.

like i said, dont have experience with the schools recruitment, but is it rly that bad? and is that only for econ majors?
