just since a couple minutes ago, i wondered if i should only apply to the schools i REALLY wanted to go to, and would, in the instant im accepted.

my original list was: RIT, syracuse U., pratt, CCA, MICA, SVA (for fall), SAVANNAH, MCAD

i know art schools applications are mainly weighted in portfolio, and i have no idea exactly how strong my portfolio is (still working on it), but even if i do get accepted into any of the other schools other than SVA, MICA, CCA, tyler, pratt, CMU, im not sure if i would even attend. so im contemplating whether i should do ONLY the apps for these 6 schools for spring transfer + early action for fall (im assuming transfer students can also do early action? i have to check). now im wondering, based on my grades, and my nonexistant portfolio, is this a stupid idea? my main reasoning behind this is, if im going to go through all the trouble of transferring, i wonder if i should...

I think you need to check with schools individually to see if transfer students can do early action. I think the answer at most schools will be no, but you may be able to apply in the fall for spring admissions at some schools.

It's always a good idea to add in a safety school. If you were not accepted at an art school, what would you like to do? Come up with a second choice major, and apply to a school that would be a good fit for that major. Maybe look for a school that also has an art department so you could possibly minor in art.

For instance, if your second choice would be to major in business, then look for schools that you can afford which have a business major and to which you would likely be accepted based on your stats. You could also limit it to those schools which meet those requirements and also have an art department. Apply there and get an acceptance in hand. That will take so much pressure off you to know that you have a sure thing if none of the art schools pan out.

Count me with a vote for one or two safety schools. Always best to cover all the bases juuuuuuuuuuust in case.

Also. Have you SEEN CCA? Because that is most certainly the ugliest school I have ever seen. It's in an old gutted out greyhound repair building complex. And you get shipped between SF and Oakland for different classes. I would definitely recommend visiting there to form your own opinion of the place before deciding to go (even if you visit after you send in applications).
