Based on my stats, what are my chances of being accepted into a decent med school?

Hey guys. I'm in the process of applying for med schools (15+ schools). Just wanted to know your opinions on whether or not I have a good shot at getting into a decent med school (ie middle of the road), or even any med school for that matter. Here is a very general outline of my resume:

Major: Chemistry
Minor: Math & Business
MCAT: 32 (10 V, 10 BS, 12 PS)
GPA: 3.82

Volunteer work: 200 hours (about 100 hours at a hospital, and 100 more hours doing various things)

Shadowing: 125 hours shadowing a physician, 100 hours shadowing a dentist

EC's: Heavy involvement in two organizations for three semesters each (but they aren't medical related).

Job experience: I've had two jobs. (Walmart and blockbuster)

Research experience: 1 year of research experience with biomaterials.

Thats the general outline. Trying to be as well-rounded as possible. I'd like to say I have a very good resume, but is there still a solid chance that I won't get into any med school?

How much do you want it? How good are your essays and letters of recommendation? You have a good profile for getting into a decent medical school (maybe in-state). Just do well on your interviews.

Your profile covers all the requisites. The unknowns are the well written POS and the LORs. Also, which state you live in makes a big difference, if you live in TX you have a statistically better chance than if you live in CA, just based on their average numbers.

What state are you in?

What med schools are you applying to?

If you’re applying to lots of OOS publics that don’t take many OOS students, then you might want to rethink that strategy.

I’d leave the “dentist shadowing” off completely. Just sayin’. ;)

With a well thought out list, great rec’s , a thoughtful PS and secondaries, a timely app (including rec’s and secondaries), you stand a good chance at going to an allopathic medical school in the US. They are all “decent”.

I’d leave the “dentist shadowing” off completely. Just sayin’

I agree…it would look like you’re applying to both med and dental schools.

You have a great chance at being accepted at Med. School. Every single American Med. School is “a decent med school”
Many business practices of Dental Ofiice are the same as Medical Office. Dealing with insurance is one example. I do not know what is wrong with shadowing Dentist, I suggested it to my own D., since our dentist was very nice to mention it. D. did not do it though, so I do not have experience reporting it to Med. School. Seems to me a vluable experience though, if you can point out what you have observe and what you have learned from it (based on discussion of shadowing in general during one of my D’s interview). It seems that anything that has produced some valuable experience is OK. But I do not feel that I have enough background with this specific situation.
