So it came up that there might be an issue that it is more difficult for freshman and sophomores to obtain season tickets for basketball games? Can someone shed light on this? Where can I find info on this? Also, does the issue only apply to season tickets or is it to all basketball game tickets?(meaning can they buy individual game tickets easily?)
Hi I’m a senior in highschool but when I toured they talked about basketball games. So they way it works is you put your name into a raffle kind of thing and the higher your grade the more time your name gets entered .
Thanks…do u remember if they said that’s for individual games or season tickets?
I think individual games I’m pretty sure but not 100%
Ok thanks
The info we were given is as follows:
For basketball only: There is a lottery for season tickets for the student section. If you are interested, you ask for your name to be entered into the lottery. Freshman have their name entered once, sophomores have their name entered twice, etc. So, as a freshman, you may get tickets or may not…luck of the lottery.
There is a place ( can’t remember if it was through Facebook or some other means) that you can purchase tickets for single games from other students that have them, guessing at a markup but probably at the discretion of the seller. You can also purchase tickets for individual games that aren’t in the student section assuming the game isn’t sold out.
When we did our first visit last winter, we went to a game at Gampel ( which was great!) . There was a sprinkling of students throughout so depending on your student’s desire to be in the student section, this may not be a big deal at all. My son really wants to be in the student section.
For other sporting events…I believe you can get tickets without a problem. When the home games are in Hartford ( football, hockey and some basketball) there are buses that run the students up for a nominal fee.
Hopefully, someone currently at UConn can chime in with any corrections/additions to this info!
Thank u! Just one more expense to budget for now
I think the buses are only $4. this website has info on the buses (and other events going on).
My daughter is a freshman this year, didn’t win tickets in the lottery but was able to purchase basketball student section women’s season tickets for Gampel and men’s tickets for Hartford. She says it’s pretty easy to buy Gampel student section tickets for men’s home games. There are student buses to Hartford for games.
Good to know -thank you. Do you know how much tickets are?
The women’s season tickets were crazy cheap, I think $14 for the pack. Men’s were $40 for the 8 Hartford games.
Ok, so not an arm and a leg then…that’s a relief…!!!
