Any idea what the acceptance rate was for Class of 2022? I’ve googled a few times, but I’m not seeing anything other than an article noting the 45% increase in applications.
@jackson345 It’s going to be in the teens most likely. Last year, that info wasn’t available for a long time, I think not until the next Common Data Set info was released. What will be more interesting, to me, is the yield rate.
Agreed @Lindagaf yield will be very interesting. I noticed Bowdoin and Colby published their acceptance rate within days of their RD decisions being released. However, they won’t know yield til sometime in May. One would hope the yield increases as acceptance rate decreases for all institutions, but we’ll see.
Those early numbers also won’t take into account any students taken off the waitlist.
Acceptance rate and yield can have an inverse relationship if the greater numbers are the result of more students throwing in “what the heck” applications.
According to an admission newsletter Bates acceptance rate this year was “~18%” 7,688 applicants.
@collegeguy3 Do you have a link by any chance?
Nope, sorry I do not
@collegebound73 @TGryx23 Just wanted you to know that my friend’s D just got in off the waitlist. So there is movement! She will be attending Bates in the fall.
We attended the April 6th Accepted Student Reception. President Spencer’s speech was just fabulous. It was a really great day for my son. He felt in his element and at home; I wish I could go back to college with the dedication and support my kids will have! The accepted students ate lunch together (without parents) and he came away with contact info for 3 guys he ate with. We sat in on the planetarium demo, which was fantastic. We stocked up on Bates gear at the bookstore and just enjoyed spending the day exploring the campus.
During the speech to start the day, the Dean of Admissions mentioned that this year’s acceptance rate was under 18%. She didn’t give an exact number, but it’s a figure to give you an idea of how this year compares to others.
@jackson345, Clayton’s a hoot, isn’t she? She’s incredibly well educated (degrees from Harvard, Yale, Williams and Oxford), yet she tells it like it is and has a wicked sense of humor. One of my kids was ready to dislike her after she caused a bit of a campus kerfuffle by eliminating a Halloween activity called “Trick or Drink”, but after a lunch with her became a big fan.
So glad your son had a good revisit. Congratulations!
@Sue22 I agree she’s awesome, though as an early 90’s grad I’m sad to hear that Trick or Drink is gone. Good times.
I don’t remember “Trick or Drink”…Maybe it replaced “Sadie Hawkins” when the women were “allowed” to ask the men to a dance? My class was one of the first to protest it, and originated an “Anti-Sadie” party…(Early 80s)
Has there been any more movement on the waitlist?
WL activity usually begins May 1 when they know how many beds are available. Don’t worry if you have not heard yet.
Someone upthread said she knows someone who got off the wl already. Post #108
Sometimes schools take one or two students off the wait list regardless of how their RD responses are looking. It could be something like a player in a critical position to replace an ED player who has suddenly backed out, or an attractive applicant with an application glitch (e.g., stellar everything but a required rec was missing). I wouldn’t read too much into a single report of movement before May 1.
Do you guys think there will be much waitlist activity this year? Because there were so many applicants this year, and factoring in that students are applying to more and more colleges, I feel like it is difficult to predict yield.
@wisteria100 , guessing post #108 includes misinformation based on date. To give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they heard about someone who was deferred ED and admitted RD?
Not to say it’s impossible but going to the WL roughly 2 weeks after releasing RD decisions and prior to accepted student events are over? Seems really out of character. …
Since I posted #108 I can, without a doubt, attest to the fact that my friend personally told me her daughter got in off the waitlist (and she had applied during the RD round) on the very date I posted #108 (April 8). I don’t have any reason to doubt the truth of her statement! Maybe her daughter is literally the only kid they take from the waitlist. I have no idea. But I do know she was waitlisted by Bates and then offered a spot in the class of 2022 pretty soon after decisions were released. I haven’t heard any other news on the WL front, but if I do I will pass it along.
Interesting, @lr4550! Did they give her 2 days to get back to them like a normal WL offer or did they give her until 4/30? And is she an athlete? Really curious!
