Does anyone go to bates college or know someone well who does that can answer a few questions for me? :
What are the students like? Friendliness, keep to themselves, competitive, etc.
Are the winters icelating and depressing?
Is it weird being somewhere so remote?

I don’t think of Bates as that remote… have you visited? It is not out of town in the country or anything (now Colby is more remote, if you are thinking of them). My oldest daughter was accepted at Bates and I expect she would have been happy had she attended. She ended up at Dickinson in PA (they gave her nice merit aid, and she liked it just as well, so picked it instead). She had a high school classmate who went to Bates, and he had a good experience.
And… do you mean “isolating”?
My impression of the Bates campus from visisting was friendly, not overly competitive. They DO have winter there, of course, and winters are dark and cold all over the northern US…
Why don’t you post on the Bates forum? Or better yet, go read up on all the past posts (go back a few years, it is still interesting) to get a feeling for it.

Bates is by no means remote. An hour from the ocean and great skiing.
