So I emailed bates and told them that I could not submit the financial aid app on time because of post office either being closed for winter holidays or because they've been changing their stamps. They agreed to let me email it after the deadline passed.

Problem is I couldn't fill it out either because I have no idea what they want from me (I'm international, so this is more complicated than if I had tax reports and such). I emailed them saying that I was about to send it and saw that I left the part that confused me blank. They haven't replied and now I'm scared ****less that they won't take my application.

Has anyone else completed a Bates international financial aid app and is willing to help a poor soul out? Much appreciated!

The international profile application that you filled out for Penn, you can send to Bates in addition to filling out their application. Since in one of your other posts, you state that your father has a business, you must report the income and assets from the business. The Bates application must be filled out completely and must be certified by ta bank official, a tax accountant (which your father probably has or should have since he has a business, or an employer (if he works for someone else).

If your parent work, you must send a letter (translated into english) from their employer certifying your parents income.

If your parents must file taxes in your country, you must send a copy of their tax forms with the english translation

I was planning on sending them the collegeboard Business and farm supplement as well, as it would make reporting things easier. Also dad’s balance sheet for reference.
I can’t get a letter from mom’s employer as school is closed and she’s a teacher. I will have it asap though, so that’s not the biggest of my concerns.

You would use your mom’s gross income. Even if your father has not made any money from his business, you cannot simply choose to only use your mother’s income. You must use the income and assets from both of your parents (including your fathers business expenses to show that he has not made any money from his business).

Your failure to do so would be considered falsifying information which could result in you being kicked out of school, and having to repay all financial aid given to you or revoking your diploma.

Thank you!!! Yes, now I can sleep at night
So I will put her gross income, then for annual income taxes paid put the $1.662 or what was it.
When they ask for “average amounts spent each year for food, clothing etc” I will use the money we have left taxes and everything, obviously, as we cannot pay for stuff with money that isn’t there…
Aaaand send them an explanation letter with the full story of circumstances and what have you.

please, i am having hard times contacting Bates as they are not answering any of my emails!
Can you please send me the e-mail address you will send your forms to?
Thanks

@sybbie, I know! I’m sending them the business supplement, as well as his balance sheet, plus anything else they might ask of me. I definitely don’t want any trouble, and I will provide them with anything. On the application though, I put in 0 for him, because every other college instructed me to do that, ad then send them further info.

Here’s my story which I think can ease your anxiety over the deadline:

So I was completely unaware that the form was due at the same time as the application. Like everyone else I was busy wrapping up the applications and assumed that financial aid forms were not due until February (as with most other colleges).

A few days ago, I sent an email to the admission office regarding my ID and PIN and was told that they were arriving in a mail. The officer also asked me to email or fax the financial aid form to them without mentioning any deadline. That was where I got suspicious and went online to check. ALAS! I was supposed to send in the form two weeks ago!

Needless to say I completed the form as fast as I could and emailed it straight back to them. But the gist is that you do not need to worry about the deadline because even the admission officers do not appear to be stressing it. I was blatantly late but they only reminded me very gently after I happened to be in touch with them. Just submit it as soon as you can; your circumstance extenuating, you will be fine.
