Bates one of 5 colleges chosen for Schuler Access Initiative launch

This is very exciting for Bates. From the article:
“The Schuler Access Initiative will award funds to institutions of higher education that pledge to increase their enrollment of Pell-eligible and undocumented students over 10 years.”

Looking forward to seeing the benefits of this.

Kenyon also.

Yes, along with Carleton, Tufts and Union. All great schools. I love that four of the colleges in this initiative are ones my kid applied to back in the day.

Agree, all great schools that will benefit so much from this intiative. My D loved Kenyon, was tempted to attend, but one of her concerns was lack of diversity. This will be such a great boost.

The Executive Director of the Schuler Educational Foundation is an alumnus of Bates College who attended Bates with the assistance of substantial financial aid.

This is a really admirable effort to help those who otherwise might be without any opportunity to attend college due to undocumented status & lack of funds or access to student loans and federal grants (Pell Grant).

I wonder if the Schular Foundation considered Berea College since it is a leader in enabling & assisting low income students to obtain a college education through grants & work study.

I don’t know, but from the article, it seems that other colleges will be added to the initiative.
