Bates vs. Bowdoin

I just visited Bates and Bowdoin, and love them both. However, I'm trying to decide which one to apply early to. Could you help?

both have outings clubs, they're about the same at womens soccer, they are in similar locations, they are both part of the Maine Track w/ Tufts Medical School, they both have need based financial aid, they both have beautiful campuses

Bates
- Lewiston has a more places to volunteer and it has benefits of a city
i visited on fall break, so no students on campus

Bowdoin
- beautiful town, better mantained,
i visited on parents weekend, students not necesarily acting honestly

What do you mean by “students not necessarily acting honestly”?

You could ask on the Bowdoin forum, but I think the few blocks of restaurants etc. that are near the Bowdoin campus are only a small part of Brunswick. It’s population is around 20,000 people and Lewiston is about 40,000, so I wouldn’t think that’s a big difference in volunteer opportunities (which you can probably create for yourself anywhere). I think the advice always is not to apply ED if you’re not sure. Bowdoin is more selective, so if you have the stats for Bowdoin maybe you should just let things play out through regular decision and see what your options are. If you visited Bates when no students were on the campus, can you be sure enough to apply ED? Lastly, Bowdoin is only about 45 minutes from Portland and it’s close to the ocean.

just that people can act differently when they’re with their parents then when they’re with only their peers
