My daughter was just accepted (RD), about an hour ago.
Waitlisted;-( International SAT 1500( 750+750) TOEFL 110 SAT 750+680 GPA UW 3.9 W 4.2 5AP/ ONE COLLEGE LEVEL CLASS Many interesting ECs and good rec I was accepted to UT Austin, William&Mary, Trinity U(21,000/year), Colorado School of Mines, Whitman College, Sewanee, Wheaton College IL I’m confused! Why? It seems that Baylor is as selective as any of these schools. I have a friend who only got 1760 in old sat yet still got in.
My DS was waitlisted. He has been accepted to UT Austin, SMU, U Miami (Full scholarship finalist), Syracuse (Business Honors Program with $100K) and Michigan State. A little surprised as kids from his school with lesser stats have been accepted. One thing that could have been a factor is that he didn’t show much interest and didn’t visit although we live in TX about 90 mins away.
@HazylEyz Did he write the “optional” essay? We were told by our college counselor that if you don’t write the essay you will very likely be waitlisted or denied. Probably because they think you’re not that interested. Someone on here with very high stats who applied EA was waitlisted and did not write essay.
@houstonmama No, he did not. I tried to get him to do the essay and ZeeMee, but once he got in early to SMU, he bagged both. I guess I can understand that. They’re trying to get the best yield possible.
I applied by the February deadline, though my goBaylor account says my application was completed on February 13. I still haven’t heard back, could it be bad news? Not sure why it’s taking so long :-S
Funny enough, like some previous commenters, my son was waitlisted and by all accounts he exceeded Baylor standards for SAT, GPA, etc. was accepted at much more selective schools. but. No visit and did apply for financial aid. Interesting! My thought is they are trying to improve their yield, and they know these higher ranking kids are unlikely to actually attend in the end-- idk.
@Holly0131 Did your son write the “optional” essay? As I’ve mentioned before in this thread, we were told by our college counselor that if you don’t write the essay you will very likely be waitlisted or denied. Probably because they think you’re not that interested. Several on here with very high stats who applied EA were waitlisted and did not write essay.
Hey everyone! I found it really helpful taking a look at these threads when I was applying to colleges and now that all of my decisions are in I figured I would post. I was accepted to Baylor regular decision. My GPA is a 3.1 UW but I have taken all AP and Honors Classes, I take classes at a local college, and I have received credit for all AP Exams. 1360 on the SAT. Major is Political Science. I am also from Maine so that may have played a part as well.
With all of the waitlisting, it looks like Baylor is doing fine for this fall despite all of the negative press from the football team.
Daughter was taken off wait list today and offered admission. 60k over 4 years. We will not accept.
Accepted! 3.0 UW GPA, 28 ACT, 1860 SAT (old), endless extracurriculars including Diversity Coalition cohead, Student Council, intern at local nonprofit, ambassador for boarding school, Proctor, published columnist for newspaper, etc. I’m from Philadelphia. Ecstatic to be accepted, especially since my GPA is lower.
Waitlisted after Early Action… I’m a little puzzled. Have a 4.0 gpa with 4.45 weighted and a 33 ACT. I am involved in leadership and community service and have been a ballet dancer for 11 years with many scholarships to summer ballet programs. Taken every honours and AP class possible.
My daughter was also waitlisted. She had a 4.9 GPA (weighted), a National Merit Finalist and a very high ACT score. She also had tons of extra curricular activities, including two summers interning at the Mayo Clinic hospital. She has already decided to accept an offer at Dartmouth, but being waitlisted at a Baylor was a little perplexing. She was accepted at Dartmouth, Cornell and Johns Hopkins; which are much more selective. She was also waitlisted at Harvard and Brown.
I had heard that some of the more selective colleges (i.e. Baylor) that are not considered elite, will reject “over qualified” candidates, expecting that they will accept offers elsewhere. Not sure how true that is.
@crodillas Congratulations to your daughter! That is very impressive and you must be very proud! Baylor was not in my top choices, but it is definitely peculiar and interesting to see who has also been wait-listed haha
Arguably, I just looked to check decision today so have no idea if they were up sooner or not. Having already taken my spot at Vanderbilt, I checked out of curiosity…hearing decisions would be posted today. For the record, I was Waitlisted! I have a 4.5 GPA (3.77 unweighted), a 1540 SAT, a ton of extra curricular, including state championships, my Eagle, and am I am a member of the US triathlon team (Half-Iron distance). Have been accepted into the engineering program at UT Austin, Tx A&M, UH, Carnegie Mellon, and Vanderbilt. I was Waitlisted at Johns Hopkins for their Biomedical engineering program.
I got waitlisted and taken off with 60k scholarship lmao… im visiting the school probably next week
I’m curious to hear from everyone who was waitlisted - did you visit Baylor, and do the optional parts of the application? I’m trying to figure out why kids with such high stats and EC’s are getting waitlisted at Baylor. One theory I’ve heard is that you are not as likely to be accepted if you haven’t visited the school or if you don’t do the extras on the app. Thanks for your input. My daughter is applying this summer.
Our D has no connections at all to Baylor and has high stats similar to those who have posted above. She was accepted in October to Baylor. We did visit summer after her sophomore year and she did complete the “optional” essay. I don’t think the argument that “they don’t accept applicants they think will go to better colleges” is true as our D is also one of those applicants and was accepted.
I applied really early, like back in October. I got accepted right away. It was so fast that I thought they accepted anyone who applied - because I wouldn’t have even considered applying had they not sent me an email inviting me to do so. My stats are avg. They gave me financial aid but not enough, I’d still have to come up with $27k/yr! I visited before I figured that out. Its a nice place. I enjoyed it but not enough to be left with over $100k of debt upon graduating. Its a college for rich families who can afford it. Unless you get close to a full ride. I just cancelled my enrollment. - forgot to mention that I am waitlisted at Case Western Reserve with an amazing financial reward - my out-of pocket would be less than attending community college!
