Sam - Religious factor was unavoidable. Worship announcement in the dorm, bible scriptures painted in the walls of student gym, they are everywhere. Since I am a Christian, those are all fine with me. But if you are not, I can see how that would affect you. I also visited Rice after visiting baylor - you should also look into them. Very close to 1:1 ratio with amazingly beautiful campous.

ahmedcop - my meeting with pre-med counselor, iāve learned that they require 3.3 gpa from BCMP (Biology, Chemistry, Math and Physics) to continue with their program by Junior.

Ahmed- I know Baylor isnāt small, but I refuse to go to a school with 30,000+ students. Right now Iām at a small HS in a small town, and I think a huge school would be too much of a culture shock. Baylor may be pushing my limit as far as size, but I think I could handle it, if the community there is as strong as they claim.

I know that 1:1 is insane, but I think that it would help a lot with pre med!

ekmy- Yah I plan on studying like crazy to keep my GPA up. I dont think having a 3.3 GPA is of any good when it comes to applying for med school! Anything below 3.8 GPA is just not for me. Of course its easy to say that, but hopefully it shouldnāt be too hard! So weāll see how the GPA goes. Hopefully, college studies will be much more organized than high school and I wont leave anything till the end!

Sampoww- I agree. Iām coming from a small private school in New York as well! I do enjoy the personal interaction I have with my teachers due to small class size! BUt I donāt really mind going to a large public school. For one, large colleges normally have more research opportunities for students, which might help you as a pre med. I dont really think your education suffers from a having a large class! It all boils down to how you study for your tests! Again, I think it all comes down to the individual and his/her preferences! For me, I dont mind large public school where I will probably have more resources and more opportunities to help me succeed as a pre med! I think the most important factor that should help you decide your college is where you will be happy and content. These are 4 years of your life. Enjoy them!

I wish I was good enough for Rice. I would have loved to go there. Oh well, no point crying about it!

And I donāt really think religion will be an issue at Baylor. Of course theyāre all about Christianity and stuff but I really dont understand why it would bother somebody! Iām certainly not concerned about religion when it comes to Baylor!

Ahmed, thatās true there are probably more research opportunities at the big schools. And yeah. Really wish I had tried harder through HS so I could go to Rice.

Are any of you future pre meds looking into the honors program?

Yah Honors is good, especially if youāre going to a large public university! Its like a small college in a larger one! Classes are smaller and you have a personal interaction with your teachers! So thatās a plus! but its harder to keep your GPA because the science courses are harder. Also, med school do not care about honor programs. All they want is your GPA! So I wouldnāt go to an honors program if I couldnāt keep my GPA up!
Sam, I wish the same thing! But past is past. No point crying about it! College is a fresh start, a clean slate and hopefully weāll both do great in college!

Yeah, looking at honors programsā¦ However, my chosen major, bioinformatics, has only a few people majoring every year and thereās a residential college for the computer science department so thatās also a nice little community.

Iām also looking at college as a fresh start. Iām not competitive for top schools, but even if I were, I probably would not want to go. My high school has way too many highly accomplished people (i.e. national/international competition winners, CEOs of startups, etc.), and itās very toxic. I feel like going to a top school would just be a repeat, something I really donāt want. Iām not saying people at non top schools are stupid, I just think that the competition wonāt be as fierce.

So what other colleges is everyone looking at?

I have a bit of a special circumstance, so Iām looking at a lot of schools (my parents didnāt want to take the risk that my circumstance would be looked down on). Iām looking in-state (UCs), as well as others. In my āmatchā category I have Boston U, Case Western, Oxford@Emory, and some liberal arts colleges.

Congrats to all of you! I was accepted a few weeks ago, I donāt know how great of a campus and college Baylor really is though, nor do I know if itāll be as good or better than UT, which I was accepted into as well. :(

Could you please tell me what are the chances for me for Pre med or Neuroscience major in Baylor Honors program.
Do they give any preference in Baylor Medical college admission who are coming from Baylor university.

SAT:2060(CR+M=1410)
GPA 3.4
5 AP classes so far.

You have above average admission stats so I wouldnāt worry about getting in.
Like most colleges with grad schools, they do give a slight advantage to their Students. However all score must be extremely competitive anyways.

Iāve been accepted for a while now but only have recently moved Baylor into my āmost-likelyā list. I was influenced to apply since I used to live in Texas and still have so much family there. However, the fact that itās a religious campus does concern me since I wasnāt really raised in a Christian environment for most of my years growing up. Iāve had many friends go there and have told me how great their experience was and thatās one of the main reasons Iām contending Baylor. However, weāll just have to see about my other acceptances!

PS, after I sent in my second SAT scores, which were significantly better, it was amusing to see how quickly I got accepted 24 hours afterwards! I guess they looked more for that than anything? I didnāt have to do an essay with my application though.

Does anyone elses Gobaylor say that their FAFSA is now complete and the will receive awards? Because mine is blank, and I am receiving a $64,000 scholarship soā¦ Help?

I applied in early December and still havenāt received anything Iām getting worried! Baylor is my top choice and I have a 3.5 unweighted gap along with 7 ap classes and 25 on act 1700 in sat very religious and have a single parent income!
