Hi y'all,

My name is Alex. I used to live for a long time in the USA as well as Mexico. I speak fluently 3 languages and I'll be studying in the USA upon september 2014.

I'm still dithering for my future Bachelor. I'm interested in 3 majors.
1) a B.B.A. With a major in Management and a minor in Finance.
2) a Bachelor Of commerce
3) a Bachelor Of international relations.

I intend to work for a few years after graduating before to do an MBA.

I would like to have an international oriented career since I lived in different part of the world.

Which One would you recommend me ?

Is a BBA well seen by companies ? I know in France this kind of program is for students with Low academic grades.

I'm Also afraid that a Bachelor Of international relations is not such a good field for finding a job after graduation or I am wrong ?

Thanks so much for your help,
Alex

Can you say what college you’re hoping to attend? Or allude to it?

Degrees called BBAs or BCom or anything that isn’t BA or BSc rings alarm bells as it calls to mind lower level foreign colleges or profit making colleges in the US.

No major guarantees employment apart from perhaps nursing or other medical professions.

What kind of job would you like to do?

The Management with finance option is the most obviously useful. The commerce one again reminds me of second rate major from somewhere dubious. Hopefully someone will correct me. The international relations major isn’t geared towards a specific career. But given your international experience, if you’d enjoy it over the management major I’d recommend that. Especially if you’re not hellbent on going straight into a management position.

Disregard any option that you’d find a drag studying for 4 years. It’ll affect your grades. A 3.8 in IR is worth more than a 2.5 in management IMHO.

Hi,

Thanks so much for your answer.

Here’s my list :

UT Austin
University Of New Mexico
Georgia Tech
New York University
Harvard ( Ok guys I know, this won’t happen but it is important to still try )
As well as Schools in Europe and Canada.

So, you basically discourage me from doing a BBA ? I have a slight preference for business even though I’d really enjoy IR.

Anyway, I’m not looking for a work in particuliar but more a field that Will open me different works. I know IR opens toward works like intelligence etc … But since I’m not American I can’t work there. So I’m a bit worried for after graduation.

Anyway Could I take a Bachelor Of business with a minor in IR or a Bachelor Of IR with a minor Of business ? I dont even know if this possible.

Which BA or BS related to business would you advise me to study ?

Thank you
Alex

A Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a common designation for a general business degree in the U.S. It is basically equivalent to a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. That kind of general degree is going to give you a wide purview of the different aspects of the many different fields that make up “business.”

Since you speak three languages fluently, you’re one of the few exceptions where a degree in international business may be a good idea. It’s similar to a BBA, but the classes will have an international/global point of view. You will probably have the chance to take a few electives that you may be able to fill with classes that comprise an international relations major. It seems like it may fit the bill. Pairing it with something else (finance, econ, supply chain management) would still be a smart decision, though. Having that sort of focus would be useful when you start looking for a job.

Good luck!

Thank you guys for all your useful informations.

The more I speak about orientation with family and friends the more they tell me to go into business. They all think I’ll be more able to find works in this field. Some Of them advised me to study as major Finance and as minor strategic management. They think Finance would be a great field for international oriented career. What do you think ?

By the way, do some Of you have heard about the Anderson School Of Management Of the University Of New Mexico ? Is it one to recommand or to not ?

Have a good week
