So I have heard if you aren’t from the NE part of the country it’s hard for you to “fit” in. And hard to make friends. I was wondering if this was true and If BC really is a place for “elite” NE people. Thanks for the helppp.

We heard that too a few years ago when my son was considering his college choices. He is an AZ native and had never lived anywhere else, so we were concerned.

The Northeast preppy image is an unfair stereotype of BC students.Yes, most of the students that you meet there will come from New England, New York, and New Jersey. But there is also a lot of diversity (geographic, religious, political, etc.) and more importantly, there are many, many friendly people. My son is currently a junior at BC and has a ton of friends. He loves it there.

The elitest reputation BC receives is non-sense. Yes, quite a few BC students come from upper-class families and / or prestigious boarding schools. Yet, how is that different from any other top-tier private school?

BC has become increasingly diverse geographically as well. This year marked a record amount of students from west coast states enrolling at BC. I, personally, am from Ohio, and I have had no trouble finding friends. Students here largely are very friendly.

Agree with the above posters. We are from southern CA and my D (also a junior, like worried_ mom’s S) is friends with a whole group of kids from MA, NY, and Penn. They are ALL extremely down to earth, (mostly) middle-class folks. She has many “parents” on the opposite coast who have had her to their homes for Thankgiving dinners, summer getaways, concerts, etc. etc. The only thing I worry about is if she comes home one summer and suddenly can not pronounce her “R’s”!

There are no issues with making friends at BC. However, I will say that being from MA, there are a few advantages:
- You know and feel comfortable with the area
- You can go home when you please
- More people live close to you so you can hang out with them over the summer

and btw I wouldn’t worry about the Boston accent. According to my roommates I have one but do not notice it. I don’t think it’s that easy to pick up.

Okay thanky oh so much!! This males me feel much better about BC. I really want go next year. But in still waiting to hear from Notre Dame.

“ND… meh…”

One expression all BCers have in common. I can guarantee that if you come to BC as a ND fan, you will have no friends. ;)
