BC Carroll School Of Management!

Hi, I am senior applying to Carroll School of Management.

I want to major in overall operation, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc… and work at consulting companies like Deloitte, Mckinsey, Accenture, etc…
My final goal is to establish my own business/enterprise after some experience.
I am not really considering majoring in analytic fields or finance, or working at investment bankings after graduation. Neither do I have interest in mathematical things nor am I good at those.
(Though I am well aware of the current trend and popularity of majoring in Finance…)

For student like me, is Carroll proper?
There are some schools which do not fit me, for example, CMU Tepper, which puts its emphasis on quantitative and analytic-based programs.

Which career path do graduates of Carroll mostly take?

Hopefully these links help you get a better understanding of where students land after CSOM:

The second link is probably the most comprehensive survey you will find for post-graduation information at BC.

If you are interested in consulting, I will tell you that most of the major blue-chip consulting firms (Bain, BCG, McKinsey, Accenture) do not recruit here. They do their recruiting at Harvard and MIT.

There are quite a few consulting firms that recruit here, but they are mostly attached to accounting firms (PWC, E&Y, Deloitte, etc.) or are smaller firms that not too many have heard about.

As for career paths… Most people here major in finance and/or accounting, so most people end up becoming either financial analysts or accountants. A small section of people end up working in marketing or technology. A handful, in operations.

So depressing to hear that :(

I really wanna specialize myself in the filed of strategy consulting (marketing, management)…

And if you’re right, it is highly unlikely that I work at those big consulting firms…

The deadline for Early action is within a month, and I just don’t know what to major and which school to go.

I am even wondering if I should go to Business school or major in competely other fields.

Anyway, I appreciate your response. Thank you.

ISUCCEED:

You state you want to apply to BC Early Action. Yet you’re also applying to CMU’s Tepper Business school, which I believe is Binding Early Decision. BC’s policy prohibits one from applying early action to BC while applying binding early decision to another program.

You should verify that before proceeding.

Practically, any b-school will do, and Carroll is fine in that regard. (But personally, I prefer a traditional liberal arts degree with the intention of obtaining an MBA later.) But know that nearly every B-school will require Calc.

btw: without stats, no one can offer much advice. For example, if you are not a VA resident, UVa is a big stretch without a bunch of 700’s. Ditto Georgetown, absent a hook. Undergrad b-schools will want to see a strong Math 2 score.

Deloitte Consulting is the biggest consulting firm on campus - if you go to BC, they are always around. But, if you are truly brilliant and want to work for McKinsey, by all means - go to the information sessions at Harvard and introduce yourself. Get your name out there. You don’t necessarily need on-campus recruiting to land a highly coveted job.
