Carroll? Any thoughts

I saw they really went up in the business week rankings for undergrad (now 9) and I know the student surveys are positive.

What are the juniors/seniors experiences with the school in terms of placement and academics? Like is everyone into accounting and big4 or do they get some placement into finance jobs and consulting? is Carroll full of red tape in terms of administration?

I believe BC’s accounting program is probably the best in the country, hence its popularity and high rates of job placement for its students. But there are probably just as many students heading into finance and consulting. I spoke to my professor a couple of weeks ago about the same issue, and it appears that there is a misconception amongst most undergrads here that you need to be an accounting major to be considered by the big 4. That’s absolutely not true. I’ve seen philosophy and English majors being recruited, and there are plenty of opportunities for students who wish to get into consulting at the big 4 firms.

Good luck.

There are a ton of kids that go into the big four from BC every year (Probably close to 75 per year at least). I am not too aware how well we place students for consulting but I do know some people do have consulting jobs lined up. Like the accounting placement, finance is VERY VERY strong. Barclays, Citi, Jeffries, BoA, Morgan Stanley, and many other banks recruit very heavily on campus. The finance department does a phenomenal job at placing students in my opinion. I will be going to one of the Big 4 but have confidence that if I was looking into finance, my professors would have helped me get placed.

Do the accounting professors help with recommendations to big4?

Yes. If you’d like to talk more, IM me at bwitty24.

I applied to Carroll RD. Will not taking a more business oriented class like economics hurt me? I took Calc AB AP and Euro History AP instead. Also, how much more selective is CSOM than A&S?

(don’t mean to steal your thread, just getting a little nervous as judgement day approaches)

I believe CSOM is the most selective. You do not have to have taken a business course prior to succeed. I took a basic accounting class before coming and it was covered in a 1/3rd of a semester. Hope that helps.

I was wondering if not taking a business course prior to submitting my application will hurt my chances of getting accepted into CSOM? Sorry if I wan’t clear.

OOO. I am not too sure. I do not think many High Schools offer a very intense business program so I doubt it would hurt.
