Never mind - he’s able to get in now!
Did BC share stats of how many applied and were accepted from ED2? Applications were up so much for ED1 it was a standout for increased popularity.
I think you have to call the admissions office to get stats but they are willing to share if you call
I was accepted! SAT was a 1470, unweighted GPA was 3.97, 12 APs, pretty good extracurriculars but nothing insane, very strong essays imo, likely very strong LOR’s. I’m excited for the fall!
interesting read for everyone. do we know anything about the deferral rate this year? did they defer a lot ed2? i personally was deferred ed1
I was deferred ed1 too. apparently 800-900 ppl (~30%) were deferred ed1 but idk how many ed2 probably a little less since the ed2 pool was smaller than ed1.
I just dont understand why they defer ppl and how you’re supposed to have a chance in RD like if you can’t get in ED with the higher acceptance rate in the smaller pool (easier to stand out) then how are you supposed to get in with the 36k+ people pool with an acceptance rate thats like half of ED. doesn’t rly make sense to be statistically. also isn’t it supposed to be easier to get in ED?
EDII received 1,499 applications and they offered admission to 30% and they deferred 24% to the regular decision round. ED (both ED1 and ED2) will make up just over 50% of the Class of 2026.
The process unfortunately is not designed to benefit the students but rather the institution. They want to compare your kid vs the regular decision pool based on their institutional needs. Look at the bright side - a deferral is not a rejection.
Agreed. That equates to about a 10% acceptance rate for RD. Roughly 36,000 applications left for 1200 spots. Assumes roughly a 33% yield. Tough - especially for the kid who isn’t sure of committing - and Covid made it hard for visits. We are in the southeast - and didn’t get to BC until after our application RD.
And some RD candidates are actually committed athletes that they asked to apply RD this year instead of ED so there are actually even less spots left.
Im confused too. I was deferred ED II and I’m not sure why. As grateful as I am to still be in consideration, if someone isn’t admitted through the less competitive ED then how are they competitive in RD with 37,000 apps?
I feel this.
how did u get this data?
ok but a deferral is basically a rejection. they are probably going to accept like 5-10% of deferred people so 90-95% are gonna be rejected after being deferred (vast majority)
oh well im just gonna hope for the best. I really made the case for myself throughout my application and the letter of cont. interest (especially with ED/it really is my top choice thing). I feel like I deserve it and that I truly, truly fit on the campus but if It doesn’t work out I literally have no part of me to blame. I really put everything into it.
A friend forwarded to me the email that BC admissions sends to some (maybe all- I don’t know) high school counselors regarding ED stats.
They typically accept 15% of deferred applicants so it’s not too bad. If you improved midterm grades, wrote a good letter of interest, etc. then you gave yourself the best shot you could. Good luck dude.
Couple of things; don’t focus on the percentages because they aren’t really illuminative about anything. A deferral means in their view you are an admittable candidate, so keep that in mind. Secondly, sometimes but not always deferrals have to do with how much financial aid a candidate needs. No school will admit this and in fact IMHO schools are deliberately deceptive about it. Financial need factors into every decision even from schools that claim to be need blind. Lastly, schools use deferrals to manage the “rounding” of their classes. They know you would come if offered a spot and you fit some hole in their class they have. They may need another tuba player for the band or what have you. Try not to get discouraged. You have put together a remarkable academic record to get this far and if this school doesn’t appreciate you another one will. This process is one that is designed to benefit the schools not the applicants. In short it just sucks.
I didnt apply for financial aid so I guess that helps me? also yeah I guess that makes sense…
