I’ve been accepted to both Boston College and University of Florida and can’t decide between the both of them! I love the idea of Boston College (unfortunately, I’ve never visited and am not sure if I could afford to go all the way there- I live in Florida), but I don’t know about the financial aid. It would cost me approximately $11,000 to go there (and I’m not even sure about the following years!), and while UF hasn’t given me my financial aid package yet (though I seriously wish they would hurry up!), I imagine it would cost me about $5000 or less. I plan on doing pre-med while being a nurse (if that’s even possible) and am pretty sure that Boston would help me prepare better because I would thrive better in a smaller class setting and more resources would be available, such as hospitals and internships. On the flip side however, medical school would be expensive enough and saving for undergrad is a priority. All in all, I’m stuck! Please help!

I assume you have Bright Futures from Florida residency. It depends on your financial situation of your family and should be totally based on what can be reasonably afforded.

However, Bright Futures is a huge, huge thing to pass up. You need to be absolutely sure that you will use the resources of BC to greatest potential before you decide to not utilize the ~75% scholarship BF will get you to UF tuition.

I wish I had your problems; Unfortunately I was rejected from UF but accepted at BC, CSOM. Go figure. Regardless, I had the financial talk with my family and made the decision as a group that my parents would help me with tuition and I would work my *** off for four years because we are not getting any financial aid.

Either way, congratulations on your acceptances. College is what you make out of it wherever you go!

My daughter was in the same situation and chose BC three years ago. She is having a very holistic experience. She has taken advantage of resources, club opportunities and is now studying abroad. She is extremely happy with her choice and thinks of BC as her home. But ultimately you have to have an open mind/heart and be ready to experience a change from Florida. Also, once you are there make the most of your experience.

Good luck

Thank you all for your responses!

To BCbound2017: I know I will get the BF Academic Scholars, so that would make $100 per semester hour…so would that make around $1200 per semester? I don’t really know much about it - I believe the minimum amount of semester hours is 12 to be full-time so is that how much they generally give for BF?

That is weird though - I would imagine BC is way harder to get into than UF, but then again, UF has always had weird acceptance and rejection decisions. I’m also worried if I am able to use all of BC’s resources efficiently - how would I make BC worth $6-9k more than UF? >_<

My financial situation isn’t the best either, I only have a single mom who makes less than 55k, and she doesn’t really know or think she would be able to give me much She has prepaid, but it only has like $8,800, so that would make around $2 per year, making BC a total of $9k and maybe UF practically nothing. But I’m seriously tempted to go to because of what I believe are more opportunities and better chances to get into med school (better city than college-town Gainesville, more hospitals to volunteer at, probably better academics because of the smaller class sizes, etc).

This is ironic, I was accepted at UF but waitlisted at BC…

Premed is HARD at every college, so try to minimize your work hours, since you will need A’s, and lots of 'em. And unless you are already a nurse, and wish to switch to premed, earning your BSN now is not a good plan for a premed.

Med school is extremely expensive. While BC is a wonderful college and experience, don’t incur any unnecessary debt.

Good luck.

Wow I am also deciding between BC and UF and the decision comes solely down to money! If BC wasn’t so expensive I would be there in a second. I am looking to major in Business and BC was just ranked 6th, but I have florida prepaid so going to UF would allow for a nearly debt-free college opportunity. Let me know what you decide!

Same situation. Full BF and Florida Pre-paid. BU gave me a lot, but still waiting on BC FA. Those are my top 3. Of course I can use the Pre-paid towards BC, but it’s obviously not the saem. Fingers crossed for my BC FA. Good luck to you guys, and remember pre-med is more about grades, not school. For management though hopefully we’ll all end up at BC.
