<p>According to the 2006 USNews Report, Boston College is ranked significantly higher (34) than Boston University’s (57). Is this really the case? If I had an intended major of Business or economics following a pre-law program, which school would be the school for me? </p>

<p>I went on the BU tour with 5-6 highschool students: all of them ended up hating BU. Why? Simply because one of the dorm smells like urine. BU doens't have a campus. Before the tour even begin, the tourguide already warned us that we won't be visiting a vast tracts of BU campus because they were too far away or too inconvenient. Here a SAT sentence for you:"BU is to grade-deflation as Harvard is to grade-inflation." BC has a well regarded business school, CSOM. I don't know how if BU has a decent business college or not.</p>
<p>Well when i visited both of them, i took a class at each. That was a pretty good indicator that BU was not for me... it was like high school all over again.</p>
<p>BC, all the way. Beautiful campus. Our business program is pretty well-regarded.</p>
<p>Honestly, if you want the traditional college experience [awesome campus, great athletics, etc.], BC is definitely for you. I don't think I could go to BU. I like having an actual campus, but the convenience of having the city in close proximity.</p>

<p>Well, it's kind of depend on how poor you are. Boston College deserves credit for its generous financial aid for the (very) low income students. I know more than 40 students of low-income receiving more than $30,000 in grant to come here. However, if you have a trace of well-offness (not even a word!) you're screwed.</p>
<p>yeah and i do have a few friends in the Presidential Scholars Program (full scholarship), but that's obviously difficult to get into. makes me wish i would've applied early.</p>
<p>I am currently debating between applying to either BU or BC. Obviously the trend in this thread is more toward BC, but I was wondering if people could elaborate more on their reasoning? I am from the midwest, and thus am not familiar at all with the Boston region. What is it that makes BU so bad?</p>
<p>Perhaps you should pose the same question on BU's site. However, I wouldn't make a decision on any school based on what I read on collegeconfidential. You need to visit the schools and research the programs you are interested in.</p>
<p>Also, I would not attach a lot of importance to the rankings. 34 vs. 57 - no big deal. And look at what US News looks at. It may not be what you would consider important. I don't think the rankings are necessarily reflective of the quality of academic programs.</p>
<p>You also need to consider your idea of "campus." BC ihas that traditional college campus feel. Places like BU and NYU (the truly urban campus) appeal to some people. When my daughter visited places like BC and Fordham, the campus was a turn-off for her. BU and NYU were her type of campus. Northwestern was the only semi-traditional campus that she actually liked.</p>

<p>kaiwahine... i am also from the midwest and i am a freshman at BC.. BC is harder to get into, has a very defined campus, a smaller student body, and is more catholic/less diverse. BU to me reminds me of a state school... although it is private, it is larger and the campus is basically a long strip along commonwealth ave. let me know if you have any specific ?s</p>
<p>Yeah it depends what kind of person you are ... if you love being in a city and don’t care so much about having pretty gardens/buildings etc then BU may well be more for you than BC. </p>
<p>I personally find BC is a bit too far from the city from my liking. However, I live in the middle of a large city at home. It all comes down to personal preference.</p>
<p>BC is set in a very pretty neighbourhood but it is more suburban than BU would be. If you want to go to the city there is transport that will take you right there, but its not right outside your doorstep as it may be with BU.</p>
<p>The T has a terminus right outside the BC gates--it runs right downtown, so it really is close! Plus BC runs shuttle buses to Cleveland Circle all the time.</p>
