BC vs. Tufts vs. Brown vs. Georgetown vs. Villanova

I am down to these five schools. I am planning on majoring in math. All of these schools will cost me about the same amount of money. I visited all of them in the past week, and I love them all! I can not decide which one to go to. Things that are important to me are that there is good school spirit, there is a strong math program, and the students work hard but are still approachable and like to have fun! Can you convince me that BC is the best school for me? Thanks.

I have the same problem but between BC and Nova only, I also visited both (BC-admitted eagle days, Nova- Candidate’s weekend)
I found both schools to be amazing. I was planning on majoring in engineering where Nova would be the obvious choice, but I am not entirely certain that i want to do engineering and I think BC has better options.
I like how Bc’s campus is slightly smaller and more compact than nova’s.
Bc is also near a much cooler city in my opinion.
slightly better sport at BC I guess.

If I choose to attend BC, I would probably major in either physics or math while taking a few computer science courses to possibly go to engineering graduate school.

If I go to Nova, I would major in ME or CE, and go on from there.

Either way, I think my two choices are very similar and certainly your options are very good also.

O and brown, thats an ivy league. much respect.

Dear DisneyLover : As one who did their graduate work in mathematics, let me offer you some insight. Every college will require just about the same math curriculum : Calculus I (differentiation), II (integration), and III (multivariable) … followed by Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra (ring theory), Real Analysis (Advanced Calculus) … with optional courses like Differential Equations, Probability/Stats, Number Theory, Euclidean Geometry, Non-Euclidean Geometry, Topology, Set Theory, Logic Systems, Graph Theory and a host of others.

Generally, graduate work is divided into two halves : algebras and analysis. Some schools now divide between applied and theoretical, but that is less common. You might know something about these course areas and that might allow you to decide between the five choices based on the research interests at the schools.

In terms of school spirit, the ordering would have to be (when viewed through a sports prism) : BC, Villanova, Georgetown, … and a draw between the other two. The problem is that no one person could have attended all five to allow a one-to-one comparison.

Hope that this helps.

Wow, impressive!

well, i honestly believe I am way too biased to help you seeing that Brown is one of my dream schools and Im still hoping for a spot off the waitlist at Gtown. But, definitely take a second look at BC. I crossed it off my list earlier this year, but now Im almost certain Ill be enrolling next year. The thing that really influenced my decision was the Honors Program at BC and my love of Gtown spawns from the overwhelming diversity there paired with its amazing acedemics within a city (D.C. as you know) equal in amazingness to Boston.

But, im looking to be an english or history major, so, as i already mentioned, i really cant help you too much…sorry
