BCN or Neuroscience

I'm an incoming freshman and at orientation my academic advisor told me to start thinking about whether I want to major in BCN or neuroscience. I know I don't have to pick until later but I want to make sure I don't take courses that are just going to end up in the electives pile. I originally wanted to do neuroscience, but I realized the science courses at my high school didn't really leave me with a strong background in science. Ironically, chemistry and cellular biology are my weak points. But I am really interested in learning these things. It would just be a challenge for me to get up to speed on things.

BCN seems like it would be easier, being more psychology based. But I always dreamed of learning about psychology from a more biological perspective. I just don't know if I am prepared for the rigor.

I think that you should choose the area that you are the most passionate about. Even if you don’t have the strongest background from high school, if you’re willing to put the work in to learn the material once you’re here, I think you could definitely make up for it. You could take a slightly easier courseload first semester to help adapt yourself to the rigor of college, if that would make you feel better. But if you really love the subject, putting in the extra hard work will be something you won’t regret.

Thanks for the reply. I think thats what I will do. I’ve just been really nervous about adjusting to UM’s rigor because I had a pretty crappy senior year and I feel like ten steps behind other incoming freshman I’ve talked to.
