Be an actuary

My goal is to be an actuary; however, UDel only provide Actuarial Undergraduate Introductory only in the major called Mathematics and Economics. It covers all topics on the first CAS/SOA exam, and includes intro. math of finance & micro/macro economics courses.
Do you think will i have a chance to achieve my goal? And how??

Can you guys give some suggestions to me??
Thank you very much.

Many years ago, I wanted to be an actuary. They made good money back then and I assume they still do. Are there other schools that have better programs more suited to your goal?

Many years ago, when I was there, Temple had an Actuarial Science major in their business school. I’d think you’d want a school that offered that kind of a major.

I applied to UD as undecided, but over the summer i decided i wanted to be an actuary. many UD alums have become actuaries. UD recommends you major in Mathematics & Economics (as I am), but I know people majoring in Statistics who want to be an actuary. although it might be better to go to a school with an actuarial science major, it is definitely possible to become an actuary if you come to UD. major isn’t everything – studying for the exams on your own matters a lot. good luck with whatever you decide!

My son was also considering actuarial science, and that was one reasons why UDel was not that attractive to him. Look at UConn and Penn State. They are both Actuarial Centers of Excellence in the Northeast. I don’t know much about Penn State but UConn offers both IS and OOS scholarships for 1/2 off tuition for 4 years if the student has good academic scores (1350 CR+M SAT and good GPA). Hope that helps.
