What major(s) do you not take as "serious" majors?

And none of those "all majors are created equal" answers.

Women’s and Gender Studies

This is going to turn into a giant “sniffle what do you mean you don’t like my major?”-thread. :(

In my opinion, history and sociology.

Business! Haaa, get a real major, kids.

I take most other majors ‘seriously’ but I laugh when Lib Arts kids say how ‘haaaaard’ they have it and how much homework they get. Majors like English and History just sort of prove that you can read and you made enough effort to show up for four years of college.

English
(10char)

They are, otherwise they wouldn’t be offered.

“Any language major”

sniffle what do you mean you don’t like my major? :(

edit: hey you cheater you edited your post! xD

Language majors are necessary for translators, history is necessary to educate people (I see it as an education major), sociology is necessary because it produces lots of useful statistics (it’s also education-ish), Women/Gender Studies is necessary to help lower the male/female pay gap, and English educates future authors and teachers.

As for ease, English and History majors require lots of 10 page plus papers.

What’s that in the sky? Is it a bird? A plane? No! It’s Major Defender!

I will defend any major, bring it on.

Sorry! I’ve met German majors who, after 3 years, couldn’t even have a decent conversation with me in proper German. Which I learned in about 10 months. So I was a bit disappointed with the lot of them :(

Psychology…i think its a great major, but its wayy too common

Makes them useless people, not a useless major. As you said, you learned German in 10 months.

Food is eaten by 6 billion people and a bunch of animals, I think it’s great, but its wayy too common

logicwarrior: agreed, although i think sociology is useful in much more ways than just a statistical context.

anyway, op’s question is dumb. i love how people have this mentality that anything that isn’t math/science is a joke or not useful. a lot of math/science majors like to do this out of personal insecurity and for a sense of self-validation lol. it’s such a narrow-minded perspective, and i’m a chem major (though ive taken classes in a few mentioned subjects).

Anything that in ends in “studies”

Theology
“Peace studies” (real major at my old college)

*** is peace studies?

too vague

it’s a specific history major, much like International Relations is a specific Poli. Sci. major.

Religion’s not going away any time soon.

Sounds like a hippy name for International Relations.

So middle eastern studies is useless?

Has anyone heard of Plan II?

Honors at Texas, right?
