Be honest: What major(s) do you not take seriously?

I read it before, and it’s nonsense. Their “ranking” is largely based on GRE scores…which, as anyone who knows anything about graduate admissions knows, are the least important factor in an application.

It’s like making a ranking of selectivity for undergrad colleges by calculating the average number of community service hours.

Comiclover, you’re studying Russian and Arabic, right? (sorry if i’m thinking of someone else). Well those are known for being pretty difficult so not all liberal arts majors are considered the same…some are considered really hard while others are easy.
I met someone today majoring in “Computer Hacking”…interesting. My college has weird majors because we have a school where you can make up your own major, but problem is people often don’t take it as seriously. I didn’t make up my major but i guess people don’t know what it is so they don’t take it seriously? i’ve gotten some funny responses:
“What, is that like a p-enis doctor or something?”
“Neurotic…what?”
"Isn’t that where you study kidneys?
“No offense, but you need to pick a major where you’ll make money after college.” (thank you, dad :))
“Genetics, that’s like a science, right?” (…seriously? to be fair, the girl who asked me that was a Media major, no idea what category that falls under.)

So I hope no one feels bad if they’re major is being bashed here or whatever…your major isn’t really that important after college so don’t worry about it. Who cares how competitive admissions to Grad school is. Economics is notoriously difficult in Grad, but easy in Undergrad…I imagine getting a PhD in anything is pretty damn hard.

“How?”

Well, how do you think women got to where we are today? How do you think we’ll ever get further? Just the fact that people study the subject and write about it is progress. Awareness is everything when it comes to inequality.

Also, what is this bull that all the ethnic studies are a good half-dozen majors better than women’s/gender studies? How on earth are they any different in usefulness?

“sorry if i’m thinking of someone else”

Yes that is me. xD

Yeah I know, I was trying to explain the credits to whatshisface cause I think they go to my school maybe.

“Also, what is this bull that all the ethnic studies are a good half-dozen majors better than women’s/gender studies? How on earth are they any different in usefulness?”

Yes, but I don’t think those people actually majored in women genders studies in order to study it. I just don’t think anyone thinks there are any jobs out there for people who major in women studies.

Also I think Middle Eastern Studies is more important than Women Gender Studies.

Equity studies. Sexual Diversity studies. Women’s and Gender I take slightly, slightly, more seriously. Sociology also. Economics.

“Also I think Middle Eastern Studies is more important than Women Gender Studies.”

I think the two are almost interchangeable these days. What do you think women’s studies coursework consists of? Treatment of women in other parts of the world and how it relates to their culture. Obvi middle eastern areas are en vogue lately.
