Be honest yall

im just wondering whos willing to say they applied just for the prestige.

ehh. I wanted one ivy even though the ivies are really not my type of school. I'm more of a sports oriented - Stanford, Duke, kinda guy. But, I mainly applied for the city.

Yes, I did consider the name factor at some point, and I did want to apply to at least one Ivy, so I applied to Columbia. But I also really liked Columbia's English department, the Core, and of course the city, so prestige wasn't the only factor I had in mind.

I applied for the Core and the city.

Didn't want to go to Penn State, only other eastern school that offers Earth(mining) Engineering close to where I live was a huge reason. Quality of the program. How the campus was when I stayed there. Football connections (video coordination, not player) Other reasons as well, name was low on my list actually. I didn't even want to tell anybody I got in other than teachers at school because I felt like I would be a jerk that's bragging or something.

Why Columbia in order of importance

Prestige (I mean there are so many more universities NYC), Columbia gives me a feeling like that is where I would really like to be, location, the unique features of SEAS and because I have family in NYC.

I applied partly because of the prestige and partly because I like the 4-1 program at the SEAS

i wouldn't have applied if i didn't visit. So the prestige didn't do it for me. That said, I'm applying elsewhere exclusively because of the prestige.

Diverse community. I just want to meet people from every background there is.

Core Curriculum

City

I applied because it was the only college in the world that I could grow in every area of my academic understanding. Some schools offered a better technical program while others offered a better theatrical program and very few offered a better economics or business program but Columbia was the only school which was Top 10 in all areas. The prestige is nice but for it's tuition cost I'm more interested in what it offers me while I'm there.

Also, the city. =)

Ummm, in no order of importance, NYC, uniqueness of SEAS, fin. aid program, and the campus was great when I visited. Prestige was really a secondary factor in applying to Columbia
