This is sort of random, but what is the average kid in your high school's idea of good-looking?

Another average kid in my high school, probably.

healthy, nice hair, skinny maybe, jacked, lots of muscles, big assets(you know what I mean), teeth, you know all the superficial things lol

bump

there are people in my school who like “cute” people, and then those that desire the more sexual aspects as mentioned above.

Popularity plays a pretty big role in attraction at my school.

Skinny, tall-ish, long legs, long hair (usually blonde), clear skin, mascara.

For guys, pretty much just ridiculously tall (definitely over six feet) and buff.

Mine is like @LosingCrayon’s school. Usually the popular people are the attractive ones, and the attractive ones are usually the smart ones. So, I dunno. Usually the people who aren’t as smart are usually ugly. :o

Popularity plays a big role but…

For Girls: Assets, nice hair, skinny/toned, nice eyes and nice personality

For Guys: Nice hair, muscular, not stupid, nice eyes and athletic

But it depends on what group you are in. So if you are in the “popular group” then to you, the popular guys/girls are beautiful. If you are in the smart group, you don’t care unless the other person challenges you intellectually. If you are in between, you just drift and like different people for different things.

for girls, it’s popular, straightened or curled hair, eye makeup, brandname clothes (aeropostale, a&f, hollister), etc. and very social/talkative. and loud. and annoying. and yeah.

Lol given the pervasive gayness in my school (I say this fondly, of course ) the beauty standards are a bit more homo-normative than the usual. The popular, cutter-cookie, traditional conception of high school attractiveness isn’t really valued. Art and musical abilities have a lot of influence, as does sense of humor.

At my school the popular girls are actually really ugly. Plus they’re stupid so it’s just no. What’s valued is curves and brains. Get a girl who’s in BC and Chemistry, is more than just competent, combined with great ‘assets’,… the guys are all over her. Also flowing hair.

For a guy, definitely athletic and smart. ( i.e me lol )

@clarinetvirtuoso Lol the “brandnames” you mentioned made me assume that you’re a middle schooler.

Yoga pants are a staple item at my school for every girl, including myself

I agree with all the above! I’d say it’s pretty similar everywhere you go.

The typical standards most of the time are:

Girls - Nice body, clothes, and hair (blonde, often). Good-looking face, even if it’s loaded with makeup.
Boys - Nice body, decent (not shaggy) hair, athletic, decent clothes (typical Nikes with Nike socks, pants, shirts)

Sometimes being popular “blinds” other people into thinking that they’re good-looking, when they’re not.

It’s all relative to the person in the end. I personally find nerdy boys kind of cute, as long as they’re clean. I think many of us here on CC could agree that we don’t like the jerks, er I mean jocks. hahah

you really hit it on the spot with the “annoying” part %-( @clarinetvirtuoso

For girls, it’s usually a good-looking face, nice, real hair (though some girls can look good with their hair dyed), decent height, nice body dimensions, an inviting personality, intelligence, and athleticism. Personally, I love soccer girls the most, though gymnasts, tennis girls, field hockey girls, and volleyball girls are very attractive as a whole. Conversely, our cheerleaders are VERY lacking in the looks department; there are only about four attractive ones.

For guys, I guess it’s good looks, athleticism, intelligence, charm and self-confidence.

The guys at my school tend to go after the volleyball players, mostly because they wear tiny little spandex shorts that show off their butts and all have perfectly curled/straightened hair 8-| Girls’ soccer players are pretty popular choices too, as are the upperclassmen on the girls’ tennis team.

As for the guys, the football and basketball players get lots of attention, as do the soccer and baseball boys.

And the nerds/overachievers/theater kids? Most of us don’t date, but if we do we tend to be attracted to each other (with some exceptions, of course).

I second the soccer girls. (Coincidentally, they are also the smart ones too.)

I think the standard for beauty isn’t as high at my school. However, I feel like the appearances of girls here are undermined in comparison to the girls at other schools without real reason. Like saying “a 10 at [our school] is a 5 at [nearby school].” (Now that’s both objective of women and an unfair comparison.) I feel like it’s in part because of our uniform of maroon, tan, or black Polo-style shirts with black or kaki pants. It’s kind of hard for one to show their sexuality when you’re wearing that, and that’s okay with me. But for instance, one of my guy friends once said something along the lines of “Ever notice that there are so many more girls at school on non-uniform days?” As far as relationships go, I don’t think there’s any one type of girl or guy that people generally go after. It’s a pretty small school, and we don’t even have a football team, so I guess we don’t have the same social standards.
