Becoming a moderator for a specific forum is usually rewarded to users who are particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating.

Can any member who fits the previous criteria become a moderator? I always thought that they were appointed after an interview or something. Can anyone ask to become one or do people come to them?

Thanks

Alexandre was given the position as moderator of the Michigan board because he is clearly extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Isn't her sn: northstarmom?
so people are given the position but can't be asked to be appointed?
But for a forum like the cafe, what knowledge would a person need to moderate it? There is really no particular pattern in terms of thread topics..

You cannot ask to become a moderator. You get recruited.

^ How do you get recruited?

This is becoming interesting to me.

If you ask to ask the question, you aren't even a canidate.

^that does make sense.
But what do they base it on. I mean, what knowledge do you have to have to qualify? It is on a forum by forum basis, right?

a lot of the moderators here are all secretive. they're like shadow ninjas because they don't post all that much but they strike really quickly. I don't think they have regular members typically moderate, because most of the members are HS students who leave after they're done with the college application process.

what dot they mean when they say: "particularly helpful and knowledgeable in the subject of the forum they are moderating."?
and, I think there are one or two mederators who post quite alot.

^

This is silly.

There is nothing wrong with being curious about something.

Are the High School students mods?

You aren't going to become one, so stop asking.

It's called curiosity...maybe you've heard of it!

merlin, yes; some HS students are mods

stuck-on-1700, I respect your being curious:)

Thought I would pop in and say HI! :p
