Hi, I'm currently an out of state student admitted to Berkeley for fall 2011. The online residency webpage is very confusing, and I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not I will qualify as an in state resident next year if one of my parent moves/gets a job in CA this year. Thanks!

bump, similar question.

Tough question.

As I understand it, they weigh all factors into the equation. So if you want to up the chances of getting residency, then you should also consider said parent getting CA license & car; getting a state ID card or driving license; etc.

But it’s by no means assured; in particular, the budget situation being what it is, they may well be stricter than usual nowadays.

I think how old you are has bearing. If your parents moved BEFORE you turned eighteen, I think one year before your first semester, you can become a resident of the state. After you turn eighteen, I don’t think you residency changes with theirs.

This is for UCLA

It’s a very strict process, and they do a very good job of making it as difficult as possible to get the cheaper tuition rates. So, the easy (and likely) answer is: no, you will not be able to. :
