Have there been any problems with bed bugs in the dorms? I keep seeing bed bug mattress protectors and sprays advertised with all the college/dorm stuff, so I'm wondering if I need to buy them. Not something we want to think about, I know...

As someone who has bed bugs (at home, not school), I wouldn’t worry about it. Even if there were bed bugs, bed bug covers only trap bugs in the mattress (so they die) and spray is only good if you spray it EVERY WHERE (every crevice) of your dorm. Its really best left to an exterminator if there are any bed bugs.

Don’t mean to freak you out though! As far as I know, there haven’t been any bed bug epidemics at Maryland. People usually get bed bug covers because they double as dust mite covers.

Stink bugs are more of a problem I think. They’re common in that area and they might show up in your dorm (not in large numbers, but a couple might find their way to your room) especially if you’re in a high rise.
