I've noticed one the Cornell Housing website they say:

"Yes. Bed lofting kits will be available - we also supply the necessary hardware and tools - on move-in day, in case you want to do this project immediately yourself (be aware that it is a 2 person job). If you want to do it later or have our facilities staff do it, you can submit a service request, once you arrive, on line. "

This is all of the info I can find. How much do these cost and are there different options on how high to make these? Just curious as I want to loft, but don't really want to do it myself. Any thoughts? BTW, when they mean that their facilites staff will do it, does that mean you can buy the kit and have them put it up for a fee/free?

Would it be cheaper to buy a kit from somewhere off campus? (Not exactly sure where around Ithaca.)

Anyone else going with CUTV or renting the fridge/microwave/freezer? I'm in JAM, so I am just wondering if there is a facility in the low rises that has a microwave or a freezer. Then the only thing necessary would be the fridge. How about a "house" TV w/cable so I could save $30 a month but still catch a favorite show? Sorry for so many questions, but I just can't get a whole lot of information on life in the low rises, (specifically JAM). Thanks!

Lofting the beds isnt that hard. You can do it yourself, like they said, or request that one of the backwoods hicks that work for campus life does it. In all honestly unless you are in a triple you probably won't need the room that much to make lofting the bed worth it.

Idk anything about CUTV bc it's new. I had neither the time nor desire to watch TV at all during the year anyhow.

I lived in the low-rises last year so i know about that. The low-rises are divided into "units", 4 per building, each of which has ~30 ppl in it. Each unit has a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge and freezer, which at any given time is most likely not in use. Meaning that, unless you are too lazy to walk 60 feet maximum, you dont need a microwave in your room. A fridge is useful for liquor and also to prevent your crap from getting eaten out of the community fridge. In the whole building there is one main lounge with a TV that has cable, which, again, in my experience always went unused. I don't think cable in your room is a necessity or even a good idea given the cost involved and the extend to which you probably wont use it.

The "backwoods hicks" that work for campus life are some of the nicest people on campus. I guess they don't live up to your socioeconomic standards!

Perro, you said you lived in the low-rises, which is where I'm headed (and yes, I'll probably need to loft my bed, since I AM in a triple). The housing webpage says each person generally has a desk, a dresser, a bookcase, and a closet, but the floorplans don't seem to indicate this-- how many of these things am I likely to actually have?
