Beds

How are the mattresses in the freshman dorms? I know you can’t have foam toppers.

If you have even a reasonably soft mattress at home, the standard mattress will seem like prison cots. You’ll most likely want a topper of some sort. I personally loved my bed without any of that, but most people slept with them.

I hear that foam toppers are not allowed but that feather/down toppers are.

as an fyi – foam toppers are a fire hazard, and they spew toxics when they burn.

Yes, feather/down are acceptable. Or just get a really nice (expensive) mattress pad, which will be padded.

I had the same type of mattress as a freshman and a sophomore. They are terrible. You really need some mattress pad and preferably a thick one to get decent sleep. Although foam ones are not allowed, most people do have them. As long as you’re careful, you probably won’t get caught.
