The weather remains great, the skies are blue, assignments cannot have yet piled up, and maybe a romance or two has already twinkled your child's eye. Love to hear what the people of today's Grinnell find to be initially appealing.

The “Why Grinnell” thread below includes a lot of it. Add great food.

One of the things that my son really likes about Grinnell is self-governance. Students are treated like adults by the administration, with adult privileges and freedoms. They are expected to exercise that freedom responsibly. He was not interested in attending a college that treated him like an overgrown high school student.

The diversity of life experiences of both students and faculty is eye-opening. He has also been very impressed with the speakers and performers Grinnell brings to campus–all for FREE!

Since he does not have anything to compare his Grinnell experience to, he might not wax rhapsodic about the student-professor interaction, small classes, great facilities and lack of distribution requirements. But as someone who attended a few institutions of higher learning myself and as a parent who’s watched another son’s college experience unfold, I know these things are remarkable.

And the fact that Grinnell costs less than its peers and gives merit aid certainly does not hurt, either!!! Have to save a few bucks for grad school.

He likes his professors, the food, his dorm mates and the diversity of people and activities.

The positive responses to the food are a sign of change.

Yes, the food is MUCH better in the new student center. The Asian noodle bar is my son’s favorite.
