Behind in class! What are some good study tips?

The past few days I have been trying to catch up on class readings (two humanities courses and two psychology coursers). I haven't had many assignments so far. But I'm having a couple of quizzes in the next few weeks. Being an idiot I didn't take the first week of class serious enough and here I am loaded with tons of chapters and articles to read and take notes on!

Reading one chapter/article takes a good amount of time. Theres a lot of info to cover. When i study from text books I write brief outlines of the sections I'm studying. After that I handwrite my notes and then I type them since I feel like I retain the info better this way. But it's taking me SO long just to finish reading and writing notes on one chapter!

Any tips?

Yes. Until you catch up, stop typing the notes.

Why haven’t you attended office hours or gone to the tutoring offices so you can narrow the scope of focus? They are usually taught by Graduate Assistants who know the professor’s coursework well.

I did go to office hours today. But I didn’t find it helpful since I don’t really need help with the material. I understand it pretty well. I think I really just need to learn how to take better notes and how to study effectively.

I’m a math major so I don’t know much about that type of study strategy but I can speak on how I stay on top of my work. Take a good look at the syllabi for each class and make sure you are on top of the deadlines for everything. No deadline should take you by surprise. If you ever have an hour between class, you need to use that hour productively. I agree with the guy telling you to stop typing up your notes at least until you catch up. If it feels like typing up your notes is important for helping you remember information, make sure you are doing it when you have the time to do it.

Also, your college has some sort of tutoring/writing/study center that should have information on how to study and take notes effectively.

At this point I would just read and take notes…more important to be up to date.

I seriously just bought the book since it had great reviews!

I will stop by at the student center this week. Lately I’ve been watching youtube videos on how to study and take notes. And I also look at the persons notes who sit next to me in class. I noticed them taking notes in different ways which I will try out for myself.
