Would you consider a career as a Paralegal? A lot of people describe it as doing all the things a lawyer does or can do except the whole arguing in court. Lots of schools offer ABA accredited Paralegal programs that have classes that are nearly identical in content that L1s take (legal reading, writing, and research, legal analysis, legal aspects of evidence, concepts of criminal law, etc - and those are just a couple off the top of my head that my local school offers), but for a fraction of the LS price. Paralegals can go and specialize in a multitude of industries such as corporate law, environmental law, and immigration law. As a paralegal, you can draft complaints, file motions, and do a bunch of legal tasks independently with few exceptions where an attorney’s approval is legally required. Of course, there is typically lower pay, especially starting out, but then again it’s not expected that you have LS level loans to pay off either. Plus, many paralegals begin to make more than some attorneys depending on what industry they specialize in and how much experience they pick up. Just a thought.

Many lawyers never see a day in a courtroom, so if that’s what you’re afraid of then you might want to still go to law school. Get a good GPA/LSAT and go for free to one of the lower T14’s to eliminate the debt problem.
Those attorneys went to TTT’s. Hard to imagine a paralegal making more than a T14 grad in biglaw.

Edit: Just notice someone Necro’d this thread. My bad for responding to a 3 month old comment lol.

Plenty of T14 attorneys end up making less than some paralegals. A good school is not some economic panacea.

I’ll rephrase, *Hard to imagine a paralegal making more than a lawyer at a V50 firm.

“Many paralegals begin to make more than some attorneys.” How do you get from there to the V50? And why V50 of all things?
