Well, I was born in Iran and stayed there for 4 years, where my family and I were in poverty. If I was born in a 3rd world nation like Iran, how much could that help the admissions process and at which schools specifically?

You’ll immediately get into Harvard. Man, being born in Iran is a ginoooormous hook.

No way? I had no idea. My grades are not that good though, lol. I think I have like a 4.3 weighted 3.9 unweighted.

Keep in mind that I am now in America.

Nobody cares where you were born. How much do you even remember from living there?

Just tell your story, it is definitely a hook. :)

It might make an interesting story if it has impacted your life - say, you have been fighting for immigration rights or helped immigrants adjust or have been dealing with a lot of social and political discrimination because people assume you are a terrorist. If you were merely born abroad and moved to the States before you were even old enough to remember your surroundings clearly, nobody cares.

Or think about it this way: A million people are born in Iran every year. More than 100 million people are born worldwide every year in a country other than the US. How many of them are accepted to extremely selective colleges? Clearly, the virtue of birth in an exotic place does not give you any sort of boost.

Thanks for the honest answer man. I’ll def. keep that in mind.
